What is the UPS training class schedule like ??
#21
Thanks for the relevant thread...
Let's see if I can summarize what I'm hearing (reading):
Class seniority is determined by age.
Aircraft and domicile assignment is determined when you show up for class.
Hotel is paid for by the company until the end of IOE.
Various hotels are used in town (up to three of them).
Indoc is a Mon-Fri 8-5 schedule with weekends off.
Commuting home for the weekend is possible if you live reasonably close to SDF.
Once in sims, schedules vary from person to person with days off not necessarily the weekends and not necessarily for only 2 days.
Uniforms and bags are issued to you on the company.
What have we missed?...
How about pay while in training?
When does longevity start? (i.e. when do you get off probation? A year after date of hire or end of IOE?)

Some MD11 sim training is done out of domicile in Long Beach, so you're also on domestic per diem, hotel and mid sized rental car.

I am so stoked for this! I have to wait a long month before I start training though...
Thanks for the per diem figure, Mad dog.
Thanks for clarifying the training situation at Long Beach too.
Thanks to all who wear brown for making UPS a great place to start a career over at!

I had no idea. We didn't get it back in the day when I was hired, but back then we rode on a brontosaurus instead of a crew van to get to the plane. Of course, it was still a DC8 <G>

Greetings to everyone. I'm new to the site and so far have really enjoyed having a centralized place to find great info. I just wanted to add that I have a good friend that started class this week and they actually told him his equipment and seat a couple of weeks ahead of time. I don't know if this is the norm though. Just thought I would share!

If there are choices available when you are hired on, the most senior (oldest in the class) usually has the choice. When the choices run out, pilots are assigned fleet and seat. Lately, with the MD 11 new hires, only new hires with heavy experience are usually offered the MD spots.
Even if they tell you what seat you can expect, everything is subject to the needs of service. Most times nothing changes, but sometimes the seat / fleet does change. Just part of the fun working for Uncle Brown.
Good Luck,
Freig8t Dog.

Not that it really matters, but I was hired as a 727 FE. During the first 2 weeks of indoc, several HR people came in an had me on their list as a DC-8 FE. When I asked why everyone was getting it wrong, I was told I was scheduled to be in the 8 but I was switched to the 72 at the very last moment.
Whatever they need is what you'll get.
