Getting to Omni/ K4
I'm closing in on my atp mins and trying to decide between a regional or a 135 op. I've weighted the pros and cons for these but I'm not sure if k4 and Omni have a prefence in the type of time preferred when applying can anyone shed some insight or give a recommendation.

It is of my own personal opinion that there are fewer land mines to navigate around as a new person in the 121 world.

Unless you just have a burning desire to experience the 135 world, go to the regionals. You’ll be more attractive to your goal airlines quicker, and you’ll have experience flying regularly into places like JFK, LAX, and ORD which will help you on the line.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone. My thoughts 135 would be more enjoyable fun places etc shorter training so getting on the line faster. 121 bigger jet and 121 time but longer training period. What are competitive times for Omni and k4? Are there major differences is there day to day ops? From all of my reading they seem to me the most appealing much more so than ATI atlas etc.

The major difference between Omni and K4 is pax and cargo. At Omni you have a fairly large crew of FAs to deal with and a hardened cockpit door. At K4 you throw on your pjs and can freely wander around the plane.
As for competitive, that’s a moving target. Right now it’s fairly low, but that could change. I’d start throwing apps out around 3-4K.

K4 wears PJ’s? I just steal all the blankets from a Delta DH and make a wrap. You can practice yoga, karate or write your memoirs from the upper deck. My rollaboard has 6 bidness class lip balms, 4 pairs of bidness class socks and 9 Delta One blankets. Minimum.

Training time is irrelevant. You are looking at a few years on the line either way, and 121 will get you close to 1000 a year. When I flew 135, you were looking at maybe 500 a year if you were busy.
