Evergreen Furlough
I heard that Evergreen just furloughed some pilots. Does anyone have details?
|
No furloughs announced but the rumor is 8 furloughs. With all the open time it doesn't make a lot of sense but there is a big negotiating session this week in DC. Perhaps that has something to do with it?

Sadly, picking up open time while guys are out on furlough is also a time honored tradition. In a recurrent ground school class in late 2009 (the last time Evergreen furloughed after UPS peak was Jan 1, 2009), one of the pilots remarked to another pilot "Hey, you said you are just coming back from furlough? I thought all the furloughs were back. If you were still furloughed, why have we all been picking up so much open time?" The list of guys on furlough is published each month on the bid packet. If you bid, then you saw the list. As long as guys like John T (rhymes with calamity) and 'Bubba' are around (the worst offenders, but hardly the only ones), the culture will be hard to change. |
8 new hire FO's getting furloughed.

any update on this...

Yeah...they've been furloughed...that's about all there is to say
|
Were they line guys or guys in training?

Amazing how Evergreen can even attract pilots in good times with their layoff track record. No way I would ever want to work there. I guess the 747 type and experience Evergreen paid for will be valuable to better operators like Kalitta, Southern and Atlas... Probably a good thing for those pilots.

Evergreen is kind of a step in the journey for some, but it tends to leave a truly "lasting impression" on those who have worked there....The legends of "Bobby Beeno" and the promises in the 1980's of "we never furlough at Evergreen"......Back then if they needed to reduce pilot numbers they just stopped training and attrition took care of it....Or they went on an inquisition and thinned out the ranks that way....Any way for those who wonder why anybody would work there the answer is "If you have to ask you probably wouldn't understand." .
