Default Travel benefits at FDX and UPS

Just curious about travel benefits if you fly for a cargo outfit, like Fed Ex.

i.e. can you or your family travel for free, like pilots can for a passenger airline? I know your family can't fly on a Fed Ex plane, for example. Are there any travel benefits (other than commuting for the pilot) for cargo guys. Thanks.

You'll make enough money to just buy tickets and not have to worry about non-rev travel.

You can buy discount seats on most of the other guys but usually the discount is not worth the hassle. I have used my airline miles to fly my family once a year on a trip.

With over 85% load factors on flights, it is not worth it to try to non-rev on SWA. Even when I worked for a pax carrier, it was almost too much of a hassle to non-rev.

To answer your question, at FedEx, we do not get any free tickets with airlines. SWA and Frontier probably give us the best deal. But they are still stby tickets that cost money. For the hassle of stby tickets, you can usually by advanced fare tickets online for just a little bit more and not worry about whether you will get on the flight. We get airline miles for our deadheads on business travel with most airlines now. So you can rack up some good miles with their frequent flyer programs.

If you can stick to one or two carriers for deadheading, your family will fly for free the rest of your career without worrying about the hassles of stby travel. We rack up lots of points on our dh's especially if you are going intl in first class. My family hasn't paid for a plane ticket in ten years and we usually fly the gang twice a year.
