FDX Sponsor Question

My contact at FDX is already sponsoring someone else, so his buddy has graciously offered to sponsor me. One concern we all share is my sponsor has held an LEC position in the past. We don't think this will cause a problem, but I thought I would see what any other FDX'ers thought.

Can a person you just met be a sponsor if he/she is willing or required to have flown with you for some period of time such as a SWA internal rec.

There are no requirements for what makes a sponsor that I know of. The only thing is the person that sponsors you has played his/her sponsor trump card until you are off probation or don't make it through the interview process and their preverbal berries are on the cracking board if you turn out to be a problem child. So now there is more vested in sponsoring someone compared to the past. So they say.
