One of my best buds flies for Aloha Air Cargo. He really likes it. Captain in the SAAB. Been there for almost a year and a half. Already pretty senior in the SAAB. Seems to have a pretty sweet schedule. Gets a lot of time off. Surfs every day and home every night. He told me that his goal had always been to come over to Hawaiian but is seriously considering just staying at Aloha. His only complaint has been the pay. He said SAAB pay isn't too good but he's all about having a great quality of life which is why I think he likes it there. And he thinks the SAAB pay will improve with the next pilot contract. He upgraded to Captain real quick though so I think that helped as far as denaros. Normal flow is to start out in the SAAB and then flow over to the 737. Seems like a lot of movement there lately. He said it traditionally has taken dudes about 18 months to get to the 737 but the next 737 initial class includes new SAAB hires with less than 10 months at the company because the company is offering pay protection to all the SAAB captains if they are willing to bypass the 737 and stay in the SAAB at 737 pay rate. Most capts are taking it so they can keep the good SAAB schedule. 1st yr pay in the 737 is around $60K/yr. On the 737 side sounds like there's folks who are already upgrading to 737 captain who have been at the company less than 3 yrs. 737 captains are making pretty good money. I think one of the reasons why he is thinking about sticking around too is that he thinks the company has a bright future. He says it is a solid company and very profitable. Good/smart management. Sounds like they're growing and adding new planes and pilots. Supposedly getting ready to expand routes throughout south pacific within the next year or so. He said he keeps hearing talk from management about them looking to add 757s and/or 767s in the not so distant future. Sounds like they're going to be hiring at least 10 more guys in the SAAB over the next 4-6 months. They seem to be especially looking for guys who can flow right over to SAAB captain.

actually in the grand scheme FO Saab pay isn't all that bad(pays more than most regionals). It seems its the Saab Captain pay that leaves something to be desired for most.

It's not much of an issue for my part time job, it is an issue for my full time job... Without going into too much of a story I make my beer money by flying one or two days a week at some other operation on Oahu.

I have lived on Oahu before for a few years. I'm just trying to get back to the islands.
