UPS removes pilot from pay status for bumping manager

The background on this? This A300 captain denied a jumpseat to the top airline manager, using his captain's authority that the FAA says cannot be chilled by anyone in mgmt- for whatever reason.

UPS TAKES CAPTAIN [] OFF PAY STATUS;

IPA DEMANDS REINSTATEMENT WITH BACK PAY

Today, the Association received official notice from UPS Chief Pilot J Barnes that A-300 Captain [] has been removed from pay status. [] was removed from flight status with pay on Friday. In a letter to [], the Company states that the Captain will remain off duty, off pay, until he is willing to "fully explain the security concerns" which motivated him to deny boarding to a jumpseater on June 29. IPA President Tom Nicholson wasted no time responding to the UPS action. "UPS is hiding behind a pretty thinly veiled pretense of being concerned about security. Where has the Company been since October of 2003 when the FAA directed both parties to get together to jointly address safety and security concerns?" The Association President demanded that Maxwell immediately be placed back on flight and pay status with no letters of reprimand of any kind.

Nicholson said the Association is going directly to the FAA to request the Company cease and desist from further violations of Captain's authority. "I believe []'s rights will be vindicated and the rights of all UPS PICs will be vindicated," he added. Nicholson also stated that the Company's actions demonstrate the need for PICs to not give any reason to the Company for denying boarding to a jumpseater. Any attempt by the Company to question a PIC concerning the exercise of his or her authority should be immediately reported to the Association.

I bet that manager wouldn't give a damn about that captain if it was him trying to go into his office...
