FedEx Application Window

When does it open next? Needing to start a profile!

Adlerdriver 12-05-2011 07:20 PM

Two days before the day after tomorrow. :D

The Walrus 12-05-2011 08:16 PM

I frequent a bar that boasts "Free Beer Tomorrow", everyday.

Seriously, I personally know guys who have had their app in for well over a year with no word as of yet. Rumor is that they have somewhere in the neighborhood of 14-15,000 apps to choose from, and the first chosen will be from highly pushed sponsors. After the first of the new year the normal, experienced applicants should come to the top of the bunch.

Bottom line is that massive retirements within the next 1-2 years should at least give a qualified app a chance.

Good Luck

With a bid coming in March, they will start the hiring process again before that.

A friend of a friend (but it is true!) who interviewed/got hired in early May, is going to class in Dec. for MEM SO.

Having put around 70 through Indoc since June, with particular guys they wanted for ANC, HKG, etc., they might get through the rest of the pool pretty fast. Good luck!

JHJr 12-06-2011 10:33 AM

My question is why does everything have to be so secretive. Just tell us, we have X number of training slots for overseas before we start with MEM based slots and you are #Y in the pool of Z. So based on about ## per indoc class per month we will call you ????. It is kind of hard for us military types planning. Guard, you don't want to pick up any long orders in case you get called, but you have to feed the Fam. Active, you don't know when to make your separation date so you can stay employed until the time comes. Just my thoughts. I know this is minuscule compared to the people who haven't been called, but hay i wouldn't be a crew dog if i didn't complain.

FdxPylot 12-06-2011 10:37 AM

If they announce when Memphis opens up, then they would never fill the overseas spots.

I know if I was in the pool and offered a Foreign Domicile, however knew that Memphis would open up just a short period after... I would be inclined to just wait it out. But without knowing about Memphis, my thoughts would change and I would get the jump on my FedEx career earlier. Perhaps! >.>

From my understanding they contacted everyone in the pool to see if they would go to HKG/CGN (ANC guys were asked specifically). Guys that jumped at it got a seniority number quicker.

JHJr: It WOULD be nice if they told folks what the game plan was. I'm sure it has changed multiple times. Just a precursor to the way airlines are run. Better get used to it. :D

J,
I was in the pool for 7 months back in the day so I totally get your frustration. Trying to support my family via the Reserves while trying to be available for "the call" was a total pain with no info coming from the HR folks. Unfortunately that's the way FDX has always been with poolies. I know it sounds hollow, but do the best you can and stay positive. When you do finally get here it is well worth the wait. Good luck to you and the other poolies. ;)

Welcome to the party, pal....

I've been in the pool since August and have not heard a peep. I would love to go to ANC but I'm abiding to the offer letter not initiating contact with HR. It sure sounds like it should crank up in Jan tho!

ANGFDX 12-06-2011 01:42 PM

No whining while in the pool...

I was in the purple pool for FOUR years and went through the emotional roller coaster and questions. Learned a lot about patience. BUT, I can most definitely reveal that behind door #1 is a great company with a lot of retirements coming up. It will be well worth it. Every line guy wants you aboard now!
See you soon...

Not whining, just stating. I know the poolies are in a good spot and I'm sure it's all well and good once on the list.

They seem to have their own ideas who would be "good" in ANC, or more specifically, "good" in the MD-11.
I know some that have contacted the hiring folks to make known their willingness to go to HKG or CGN. Got them a slot in HKG.

FrankTheTank 12-07-2011 10:31 AM

When y'all finally get here, you will see why they keep all their cards close. The Reason: EVERYTHING at purple and orange changes on a daily basis, if not hourly. I don't know why but that it how it has been in my 7+ years. But IMHO it is worth every bit of the PITA!

Hawk 285 12-07-2011 03:26 PM

A friend of mine in the pool since June just got a call for a 9 Jan class date. MEM 727 SO.

Not true..I was never called and others I know in the pool weren't called.

I guy that got hired with me did call AND got offered CGN B757....

finedavefine 12-09-2011 04:34 AM

The company probably stopped making those calls once they had their required allotment of guys who would accept those assignments.

Moondog 12-09-2011 07:23 AM

Well I called HR to see how I could expedite things but they said that since I was not in the pool they couldn't help me. Then they hung up on me. Do you think that will cost me when the interview window opens up? And do you think I should take the FE written again?

hoover 12-09-2011 08:45 AM

moondog- thats funny.

Any idea of how many have been hired and online vs those in the pool?

Around 120+ on the seniority list since they started (pros, folks from the old pool and then off the street hires). Who knows about the pool? 60-80, or more?

Though it seems like they haven't interviewed since October or so.

I said "contacted", as guys I know were emailed and not called. Back in June or so.

Is it a "must" to have an internal rec.? Are they actively recruiting?

MD11HOG 12-18-2011 08:18 AM

We are between hiring pulses now as well as chief pilots. Our old chief pilot oversaw a lot of resources devoted to the hiring process. How much the new guy changes is a guess. But the old guy said a rec was not required.

I wonder how much the legal department was driving some of the changes vs. the chief?
