Actually, the Concorde has the worst accident fatality rate of any commercial aircraft. It only takes one when the airframe numbers are small. A quick review of MD accidents shows that almost all of them are gross pilot error, not a reflection of the aircraft, but small numbers of airframes operating in a difficult environment.

My understanding is our accident rate effects our insurance more then it effects our Feds. I'm pretty sure if we have another accident FedEx will be looking at self insurance. Pretty costly I imagine and I hope we can continue to fly safely in the future.
