FDX MD-11 training...

Hey guys, I'm slated to go to MD-11 training soon. I found the website MD-11.org. Has anyone used this before? Looks pretty good, however I'm wondering from you FDX MD-11 veterans if this is even accurate or a good study guide?

Thanks in advance.

Don't waste your time on that web site. It may be accurate, maybe not. The procedures detailed there do not reflect current Fedex practices.

Since you will begin with systems, the best study guide for that is located on the pilot.fedex.com website.

Go to "Training and Standards"
click on MD-11 on the left
click on "Presentations"

Click on the Jan 2012 "Systems Study Notes". That document will give you an excellent idea of what you need to know for your systems validation.

There is lots of good info available there on the other "tabs" as you progress through the training course. Good luck.

Is the "21-page Gouge" still around? That is all you need unless things have changed. Ask around some of your -11 buds someone should have a copy.

See Post #2. The old gouge is now the officially sanctioned Study Notes. I had FDX Office make mine into a spiffy spiral binder :D.

That website is run by a UPS NURP. The info on systems is good (he knows his stuff), however, they probably do reflect UPS flows and procedures.

At least it isn't a website from someone on Airliners.net...

Not sure I would totally agree with Adler. While they weren't 100% accurate, I found the MD-11.org overhead panel study gouge to be pretty good study aids.

I'm not trying to insult the website creator's product. I'm sure he knows his stuff. Sorry if I came across that way.

I just wouldn't advise one of our guys who is just about to begin training to spend any of his valuable time right now using something that's "not 100% accurate" (at least as it applies to Fedex).

If he wants to use it later, once he knows what applies to Fedex and what is N/A, more power to him.

That website has nothing to do with the ESV. Stick to pfc training links. Anything else is nice to know, not necessary. The old kinkos gouge is incorporated in the study notes. Fight the aligator closest to the canoe.

What Adler says is true. Having been on the Maddog for the past eight years its time to move on to the 777. You can also go into the LMS systems located under training and standards and start to look at the MD-11 syllabus as a guest. You can do this anytime and it will give you a head start in your training. The UPS page has some good info but not all of it pertains to FDX and the way we operate the airplane. Still, a good tool after you finish to help in studying for those up-n-coming CLOE's.

In the dark days of MD-11 training it was not uncommon to put in 18 to 20 hours a day of studying to get ready for your oral. I've been through the course twice. Once in the dark days as an F/O and then seven years ago for Capt transition. Still takes about 3 months from start to finish. Someone else who has recently finished can pipe up hear with the latest info. Fedex is getting away from the classic oral and getting more into the self taught course. At least for the 777. However I had a bud who just went through the course to become a professional instructor and it was all classroom. Like I said someone else who has the latest info will chime in. Prepare to study like you've never studyied before. As always Fedex makes it overkill in learning how to fly it. It a fantastic jet.

What the heck is this VNAV
