They can't/won't do hard IFR approaches. Recently I have flown with a couple of gummers that have been downgraded to the right seat and in my opinion they should have been downgraded to non-flying status. Which is it, Sparky? Or perhaps its all B.S. I vote for the latter. |

Yep. Its all about "get out of my seat." They forget it isn't their seat until they're senior enough to hold the bid.
True. Its been the law for over 4 years. Its about time to get over it. I call B.S. on the post. First off, if they're Captains and you've experienced the first two, you're an F/O. If the last line is true, you're a Captain. Which is it, Sparky? Or perhaps its all B.S. I vote for the latter. |

I have flown with way too many guy approaching 60 that need to retire. They can't/won't make night landings They can't/won't do hard IFR approaches. Gents, if the over-60 guys aren't performing up to standards, start writing very specific FSAPs/ASAPs/NASA reports about their performance.
The more, the merrier... Anything else right now is just beating a horse that's been dead since December 2007. |
The thing I find most interesting about this over-60 thing is that it's now been 5 years since the rule came into being, and all those who were over 60 then, and reclaimed their front seats, have now either retired, as they should have, or have moved to the back of the 727. Regardless, you guys are still harping on the "over 60 crowd." If my math is correct, the guys you are complaining about now were part of the "under 60 crowd" then, so it would seem to me that these guys, and the rest of you who will eventually turn 60, should come to the realization that this is ops-normal and just another part of the airline pilot's life cycle. In other words, give it a rest. It's here to stay, and bringing it up again and again, like last night's chili, is not only hurtful to the guys who are playing by the rules, but very counter-productive.
Anyway, just my over-60 take on life in the fast lane. JJ |
So all you anti-65 guys are going to retire at age 60 on principle, right?
