Fedex - Goodbye to Leather Jacket & Parka

Heard today there was a recent meeting of management and they decided to get rid of the leather jacket and parka. Only the blouse and a trench coat will be worn. Not sure of implementation date. Anyone else heard this?

KnightFlyer 02-23-2012 06:57 AM

Yes but it's a leather trench coat.

Awesome!! Just a blouse and trenchcoat will be worn?

I expect large crowds under the stairs for our boarding and deplaning.:D

We have a Trench Coat?

Purpletailed10 02-23-2012 07:26 AM

Next thing you know, the'll want to take away the black tennis shoes the gummers like to wear. :D

I'm not cool with them taking the parka away......that thing is the best all around work jacket going.

7700 02-23-2012 07:37 AM

We will look quite odd skiing on weekend layovers in Blouse and trench coat. Obviously decided by people senior enough to hold warm wx lines. Parka = best coat ever!

I know this must be true because I just ordered a new leather jacket.:p

HoursHore 02-23-2012 07:43 AM

Talk about kicking a hornets nest for no reason. We'll bend over on 777 pay but you'll have to ply our parka from our cold dead fingers!

alafly 02-23-2012 07:51 AM

Surely this has some other provision. One jacket does not fit all. Surely some sanity might prevail. Oh wait,....I had a moment of realistic thinking. sorry.....

coryk 02-23-2012 08:10 AM

From an outsider... is the parka like the North Face shell that you can zip into a larger, more fuller coat?

Alaska and Horizon wear something similar to a North Face shell and that's why I was wondering. It's great!

Thank God! We all look like a bunch of misfits in our various outfits. Too many choices. Shirt only (with pants) in the Summer and overcoat and/or jacket in the Winter.

WM :D

onetime 02-23-2012 08:24 AM

Is that winter in Memphis or in Sydney? Or perhaps mandatory after 1 October. Oh and there is the small issue of rain, which occurs on planet EARTH sometimes. None of the above options repel rain very well. Just thoughts.

flextodaline 02-23-2012 08:27 AM

.....if this is on managements list of "things to do" after the re-org, then we obviously need more senior managers, and managing directors to straighten this out.......

Huck 02-23-2012 09:36 AM

This idea is custom-made to repair some of our flagging unity....

Problem solved! The new rain jacket...we could have it and the hat done in Orange...and replace all the yokes with this Naval wheel, depending on the background of the captain flying the plane!

At Alaska, when we fly the purely cargo flights, we wear street clothes. The boxes don't seem to care.

we are going to keep the parka. remember the peanut butter analogy.

in the end we will fight for the parka and win, then feel like we won a battle

to keep something we already had.

MaydayMark 02-23-2012 02:19 PM

I like the parka. I'll be disappointed if we lose them

That would be funny if it wasn't the spot-on pathetic truth! We will trade 76/75 pay rates for parkas, leather jackets, and keeping our lockers!

I say we fight to get the FDX hoodie approved. That will make them forget all about the parka.

Why "get it approved"? I've seen people walking around the AOC in everything from down overcoats to fleece zip ups. Just start wearing the hoodie. In the summer we can switch to wife beaters. They'll be handing out leather jackets like little foam ear plugs before you know it.

...wife-beater, FedEx Racing NASCAR ball cap, and black tennies (with "USMC Retired" lanyard) :p

Overnitefr8 02-23-2012 04:40 PM

How about FedEx Snuggies? The perfect layover attire. ;)

Busboy 02-23-2012 04:45 PM

I wonder if there is a patent for an insulated wearable locker?

don't know about that....but I patented the black electrical tape on the shoulder boards "uniform item" (patent pending actually)

The Walrus 02-23-2012 05:32 PM

Anyone hear anything about banning backpacks?

FDXLAG 02-23-2012 05:36 PM

And Costco suitcases?

Reddog 02-23-2012 05:49 PM

Backpacks were also mentioned on the "hit list."

They've been trying to get rid of bid packs for years (it MUST be expensive to print?). If we agree to get rid of them they should at least let us expense our annual BidX fee ...

BACKpacks.....:)

Dadof6 02-24-2012 02:20 AM

This just in...

VF Solutions has reported new orders for parkas and leather jackets are through the roof. Sales are particularly brisk to the demographic of junior FOs & SOs flying the Greats and Grands, and all European fliers.

Not to be left out, however, are those turning 65 after Oct 2012--after all, this is their last shot at a (partially) subsidized parka or jacket to impress the (not so) young ladies at the retirement home. :D

Dakota 02-24-2012 04:33 AM

What's the problem??

So ya think they change out of their costume when they leave the AOC?

Many of our group could use the help of the OAC! To see individuals (widebodies) trying to make themselves better is not something to belittle. "Lighten up", you say...You need to get off your high horse and think about how the things you say may be very hurtful to others!!

OAC

Absolutely. If I can't do it with my flying skills then showing off my guns in a sporty FDX wife beater is the next best thing. I wonder how that will go over in the Paris first class lounge.

MEMFO4Ever 02-24-2012 09:39 AM

Or how about we just continue doing what we want since wearing costumes is pretty stupid to start with. Another waste of money.
