FDX 777s
This rumor has gotten very strong recently...heard on the golf course today that FS walked out of an Airbus meeting in Toulouse...heard the same thing from duty officer...and we know he was in sea a few weeks ago...anyone heard anything about this...i think this was touched on on another thread...comments?

Something close. Heard the 380 delays have about delayed it completely out of the picture. If we do get them late I'm sure they will be very CHEAP! (i.e. FS will have EADS bent over:)) Airbus doesn't need to lose FDX as a customer for the 380.

fdx 777's
There aren't any used 777 freighters on the market yet, so I don't think they are an option for fedex...lol...
JK....and all kidding aside, I'm sure the head sheds at fedex and ups are exploring all the options because of the 380 debacle. I'm not sure the 380 will be here (ups) at all, especially if fedex cancels their order. The ball is in Boeing's court and they have a great opportunity to steal the heavy lift long haul freight orders from Toulouse. We'll see what they can put together... JMO Pilot7576 |
the 777 is really no replacement for the 380 though. It isn't much more than a new and modern md-11. The freighter (so far) is the short version, -200

Just curious but does Lockheed make any freighters anymore? I was in KSAT and saw a few of their birds flying for UPS. Didn't know if they were still on the order or not. I like the engine in the tail. Don't ask me why but it just looks pretty slick.

lockheed freighters
toiletduck...
Don't think you saw any lockheed freighters there...ups doesn't have any. Maybe you saw a maddog in the shadows (engine in the tail) and it morphed into a 1011. Would love to see a lockheed freighter though...I'm sure they could build it right... Pilot7576 |
The 747-8F sounds like the best option. Maybe we can get our hands on a few crusty old ones before we take delivery of some fresh ones........I'm dreaming.:D
|
Seems a logical choice might be the 747-400. No it won't lift as much as an A380, but much easier to get your hands on one..............

I had the head of A/C acquisitions onboard and we talked about every plane out there. We had a good talk about the 747 and what a great plane it is and ever will be. But he said we would not see any flying for Express since it is excellent for freight operations, opposed to container. He did say he would not be surprised to see FedEx acquire a freighter operation (FedEx Air Freight) some day and then we would have 747 on the property.
As far as the 380...he said that FedEx's forecast for the aircraft is 6-12 months farther out than Airbus is advertising. 777...he did not give much info on??? |
