Fedex LAX

How long would it take for a Fedex new hire to get based at LAX?

I hired on in Jun 2004 and was flying out of the LAX base in Nov 2005.

Soooo, a year and a half? Is that the going rate? Anyone with a better offer? Anyone?

It depends. Good answer, I know. When I got hired in Nov 04, LAX F/O was going junior to MEM -11 F/O. A newhire in my class bid LAX shortly after we got out of S/O training and got it. I think it was about a year and change total until he was on the line in LA. Of course, he's 4th from the bottom in LAX and has been for a year now. Looking closer at the list, I'd say LAX is pretty senior right now, especially for Capt's.

Thanks for the info, Veez

I was hired summer '01. LAX based opened summer '02 and went REAL senior. The flying was crap and almost all domestic so there was a mass exodus and I was able to sneak in at the bottom. So...I had been on property for 2 yrs, the base open 1 yr and was able to get out there. BUUUUUTT, the flying got better in LA with a lot more international and I would NOT have been able to hold for the next 2 bids.

LAX base seems to altenate; it goes senior one bid and then junior the next so it really is all about timing.

Clear as mud now, huh!?

Don't EVER count on anything as far as bids go.....you have a very fickle group and what was true 6 months ago is never insurance for what you want....

One thing is for certain. If you do not live in the LA basin being junior in the LAX domicile really sucks. Been there and done it.

Just curious,
why is being junior at LAX any worse than being junior @ MEM, ANC, SFS and commuting? I'm "fortunate" to live in the MEM so commuting's a non-issue. Is it the high crash-pad prices?

You would be surprised. LAX is not an easy airport to commute to. We have all kinds of planes, at all hours, going to/from MEM so it is pretty easy to commute to the Planet.

Its is not so much the crashpad prices but they are hard hard to find. You would think there would be alot of them but theres not of availablitity close to the airport.
