FDX Union Politics

What is with the numerous immature rantings coming from all ends of the union? I thought these guys and gals were busy spending my taxes (I mean "dues") on contract negotiations. All I've read recently is high school level jabbering at each other. What a waste of time:(!!!

I agree. I've been with FedEx about six months and I've never been involved with a union before. Based on what I've seen so far, to say I am disappointed would be understatement.

You should have been here the 10 years before the association. Total I think of 1.5 percent raise.

Have you ever seen the pay and benefits at a non-union company?

The last non-union I worked for was called Federal Express at the time. I came from a long term union (ALPA) company called Flying Tiger Line. Great place to work with a strong union. At least I had been told that. In 1984 I earned $111,000 as a B747 F/O. Three years later as a B727 Captain, flying 4 legs a night, 5 nights a week, three weeks every month, I earned $62,000 W2 earnings. When Federal Express bought Tigers my pay was brought up over 18 month to the non-union rate resulting in well over a 100% pay increase. Rather than three weeks a month I only had to work two. Vacation under my old union contract was around 2.5 hours a day, under the non union rules (Flight Crewmember Handbook, FCH) was 7 hours a day.

Huck,

I was responding to the original post about the public ranting that was going on. Your reply was in standard APC fashion where the original post is not taken into account when reading the reply and used as a spring board to drive the screws into somebody. Read the original post and keep that in mind when you read my reply. My reply was to public ranting. Nowhere in the post was there talk about disappointment in pay or vacation. IT was a about public ranting. Get it. Is that clear enough. Spout off all you want but don't point it at me because you can't keep a reply in context of the original post, but it seems nobody else can too.

And FH, if you fun your $111k through an inflation calculator, it's about $230k in today's dollars.

Yes, and my $62,000 727 Captain pay would be $118,000. Jeez, that looks like the average ALPA Captain pay today. :(
