FedEx Express and UPS may have reached separate multi-year agreements with their pilot unions after months of mediated talks but...

Now are we the highest paid dudes cause everyone else is in the sh--er, or because UPS/FedEx see us for what we're worth? Probably a little of both I suppose, But it was only three years ago (2003ish), when I had people at NWA and United asking me if I was gonna stay at FedEx or move to a Major. Like who, SWA or Jet Blue??? YGBSM!

I think it's because everybody else is in the crapper. You guys don't get what you are worth. Too bad they couldn't match pre 9/11 widebody rates from the majors.

United/Delta circa 2000 lasted less than 18 months. Nice contracts--sexy payrates--and absolutely meaningless when the company hit hard times. I'm a proud ALPA member--but the goose only lays golden eggs when its well fed and making money. The current UPS/FDX contracts may not be as "sexy" as the higher contracts at Delta or United, but judging by the number of those guys now applying here I think I am more than satisfied. There is a VALUE to having a secure career, and I'll take a slightly lower payrate at a company where I don't lose sleep over chapter 11s or mergers verses a higher payrate that may only be temporary.

UPS/FDX Have set a standard. The legacy carriers will follow when the time comes. At least there is a standard to look up to. A really good standard, if there was not such a good standard, when the time comes for legacy carriers to raise the pay rate, it might have been lower. I agree with some of you guys in the sense that extremely high paying scales only last when times are good, but when sh*t hits the fan everything goes down hill. Legacy carriers need something like the UPS/FDX pay scales something that will not crumble down during the hard times.:cool:

Delta's 757/767 captain in 2001 was paid $268 X 65 = $205,000 per year, at guarantee.

Let's see now, a UPS guy (me) with our new contract pays $223 X 81.25 (adjusted for calendar month) = $217,000.

We UPSers have blended pay, and the B767-300 is our "average" airplane on that basis, which is why I used it. Despite some earning power lost due to inflation, our left seat rates today are as good as Delta's were in 2006, with the added bonus that our W2s now will AVERAGE $300,000 per year as topped out captains. Top captains at the end of the contract can earn $428,000 if they max their schedules.

The pay is ours and FDX's to hopefully hold onto and serve as an aiming point for others, barring an economic crisis.

If you mean by max, they will live in the crew room waiting for extra flying than, yes I agree, you might be able to make 300K. No way 400K+ even with your last pay raises :mad: :eek:

And what was DAL's 764 or 777 rate? What was UAL's 744/777 rate? Higher than the numbers you posted. UAL's monthly gar was also higher which would skew your figures. Don't misunderstand what I wrote. The bat shyt crazy rates of pre 9/11 are un obtainable in todays climate. All I meant was, that with the integral part of the operation the FedEx/UPS pilots are as well as the amount of profit both companies are posting, you guys deserve more.
