2 leg DH - dev but fly the 2nd sched leg
 

I did the search thing to no avail so I apologize if old business here. My question is: The scheduled DH has two legs from MEM. I deviate on the 1st leg but catch up with the scheduled flight on the second leg. Will ground transportation remain in place when I arrive at destination?

Say I fly from Austin to DFW on my deviation but I catch the original pairing flight from DFW to SLC. Will the ground trans still be there for me? I would have clicked to cancel only the first leg on the FDX screen.

I think he wants to know if you work for Atlas or UPS?

Without a layover in between the flights your transportation will be gone.

No it will not in your example. When you deviate the 1st leg it will tell you all subsequent legs must be dropped, at least domestic.

From what I understand, you can click not to deviate on the second leg and it still drops off, to include any ground transportation. However, if its labelled GT, scheduling has claimed they don't cancel it. I think in SLC, you will have to reschedule the GT. In PHL to DOV, for example, they are supposed to hold the GT since it's marked as a separate event.

At least that's how it's supposed to work.

If your d/h is MEM-ATL-CDG for example and you want to cnx the MEM-ATL leg and keep the ATL-CDG leg you can and the GT will be waiting for you in CDG when you arrive. The catch is two fold, when you deviate only deviate on the MEM-ATL leg (first error most crew members make is they deviate on both legs) now FOX will cancel both legs(who knows why) so now you need to call Corp Travel and rebook ATL-CDG on the exact same flight that is on the pairing. Your GT in CDG is tied to the second leg. You can confirm this by looking at the Summary Format of your pairing and it will show exactly what legs you are deviating on. Same holds true for coming back to the states if you have a two leg CDG-AMS-MEM. Keep the CDG-AMS, deviate on AMS-MEM, rebook pairing CDG-AMS leg and the GT will stay. I have been doing this ever since we went to FOX and it works everytime.

When you deviate a front end trip like this it cancels everything up until the first layover hotel. Only the transportation from your layover hotel to the operating airport remains.

The system gives you a choice to click either or both of the of the dead head legs, but it doesn't matter. It will mark both legs as deviating on the next screen even if you click just one of the legs. (This has been brought up by the union but the company considers canceling just one leg a concession.) FamilyATM may be correct on the GT, but in my experience it's gone. Often it is impossible to repurchase the ticket you just canceled by deviating at the accepted fare. In your example this would be the DFW-SLC leg. It's crazy and make no sense, but it is impossible to rejoin a trip mid-deviation under current rules. You have to pay for all transportation cost including surface transportation to your first layover hotel before an operating leg. I live this every month (mostly international).

Tip: Book the complete deviation itinerary including ground transportation before you deviate.

Your pairing will show the $ symbol on the deviating legs and ground transportation will be removed from your pairing after you deviate. If the ground transportation disappears from your calendar it has always been gone in my experience. Check your calendar. Don't want you to get stranded at the airport. Luckily in the CDG example you take the black (hotel) bus to the airport Marriott, which you don't have to expense.
