FEDEX Technical Pilot

Why does Fedex hire outside the union for this position and are they paid equivalent to a Fedex CPT?

Curious about that myself!

I know the MD-11 Tech Pilot.

Although I haven't specifically asked him, I "think" he gets paid as if he were a Flex Instructor (gets paid for the line he "could hold" and owes them the equivalent of 15/19 days/month)? He's hinted that he works more days than that.

Anybody think differently?

must be referring to the posting on the FedEx.com web page. It is part of the reorg, no desire to pay a tech pilot the wages of a line pilot is most likely the reason.

That's a pretty important position to give to someone who has never flown for us.....

Boy has the company gone down hill. If JL were still chief Pilot the requirements would read:

Travel requirement - 25%.

Special skills - 75%.

Now it looks like you just have to have plain old standard skills to be a Technical Pilot.

Thanks for the info. Not sure what a Flex Instructor is, is that a line pilot that works in the training center?
