Line Numbers for Management Pilots at UPS?
 

I have been hearing a lot about this subject lately. Anybody else hear anything?

Don't think it will ever happen. It's a great topic to toss around at campaign time. A lot harder to get the box heads to buy into it.

The company would yank the MIP bonus really fast if the management guys even hint about joining the union. Additionally, the managers wouldn't be able to continue to work past 60 and continue to get fat Captain salaries while working in the training center. So..it probably ain't gonna happen. Date of hire integration? Yeah right.

A number of things to consider:

1. The mgt bonus cannot be "yanked" from one segment of mgt.

2. The Dorsey case will have a lot to do with this situation.

3. We all know that an 18 or 20 year manager would not be
"tacked" to the bottom of the seniority list. There would
be all kinds of protections for both sides for some period
of time.

4. The flying age will be raised to age 65 very soon, so that
issue is not a "player".

At the top of my list will be dues assessment for each and every one of the subordinate officials, in full at time of integration. No deferral, no payment plan. Next is granting the union check airmen checkride authority for all events. There's a bunch more, but these 2 will stop the company from allowing it.

I am all for granting any instructor check airman authority. Their training is the same. It is just the FAA and UPS who have made the agreement to issue instructor letter the the line guys.

The dues issue is much more thorny. Since the mgt. guys had no union protection, why should they pay back dues. Not to mention the fact that the real issue of importance is just getting the mgt. guys on the list. This should be primary in importance.

Right off the top of my head on the issue of union protection. No, they didn't have it, but they indirectly benefitted for all these years from salaries tied to the line captain payrates. As far as the big picture goes, I wouldn't want ANY of the current managers in my union. Any new hire subordinate official should be in the union. This airline within an airline crap neds to go away.

Heard that the company would fight this tooth and nail.

Also heard that most MGT guys do not want it.

And, when the IPA really takes a hard look at this issue, the rank and file
will probably demand a full vote on the issue, which would probably fail a
test of support from the rank and file.

All in all, the issue would take years to resolve.

So, don't look for it to happen right after the IPA election.

It SHOULD happen, but for many reasons I don't think that it will.

I flew with a management guy and he said if the managers had a chance to be in the IPA, "there would be a stampede". I don't know if he was trying to see what I would say but of course I just said "I see". Anyways, I would like the positions to be filled with IPA guys/gals.
