The MEC policy pays a minimum of 15%, and that benefit is non-taxable, so it's like getting another 18-20% on top of what you get from the Company, whether that is 60% or 50%.
I think it's well worth the cost, considering the multitude of otherwise inconsequential things could ground an airline pilot.

Thx everyone for the replies...trying to get smart on a complicated topic

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I've read everything I can find & still can't wrap my head around the necessity of the FedEx Mec LTD policy. Am I missing something here?
FedEx LTD pays 60% after all banks are drained for 2 years then 50% thereafter till 65
MEC pays 66.7% till age 60.
Regardless of the 12 or 24 month option selected on the MEC policy, it still seems like a decent chunk of change to pay for an either 6.7% (1st 24 months) or 16.7% (after) pay offset above the FedEx LTD policy?
I can see how the MEC policy beats the Alpa policy but don't see it as much of a supplement to the policy we have contractually with the company. Yes I realize my math gets watered down a bit by taxable vs non-taxable
Someone please draw what I'm missing here in crayon
Thanks
