Plane Names
 

I just returned from another good day of flying today. At my FBO waiting around, I rudely leaned over to listen in on a conversation. Someone said that FedEx names its planes with employee names. Does that mean there is a plane out there called "Tony" or "Redeye?" :)

Actually they'er named after employee's kids. Get a new plane and a kid's name is pulled out of a hat. We have, Tony, Sean, Daniel, Ginger, Drew, April, and even Two Bears.

I haven't seen a "Tony" (doesn't mean there isn't one) but I've seen a few rather unique names.

Wasn't the name Shi-thead (prounounced Shi-thayed) pulled out of the hat? Pretty sure they figured that one out...

I probably shouldn't have even opened my mouth about it.

Operator: I'm Saw Lee.

Caller: Yes! You should be sorry. Now give me your name!!

I believe, in order to put the childs name in "the hat" he or she has to be under than 14 years old at the time their name is submitted. And yes, we have a very diverse bunch of names adorning our jets. It's actually a neat thing. I flew one of our MD-11's out of Hong Kong with my sons name on it. I took a few photos and he now has it hanging on the wall in his office. It wasn't named for him, but was cool nonetheless. However, I don't remember seeing "Redeye" on any of the planes, but it could happen. ;)

LOL, no! The story I heard was she was a local HS basketball team member!:rolleyes:
