Fella's think about it. How long would it take to have 30 777's delivered? How long is Connie going to be around? Don't really think it is going to happen. It was a joke that I thought was obvious, but I guess I was wrong. Hey, who knows stranger things have happened.

So many rumors floating around K4, 4 777s? that is within the realm of possible, 30 is a bit of a reach, we have our niche, 20 airframes or so total , a mix of Classics,400s,and now perhaps 777s ? Would love to see it.

It has to be a UPS order, we can pay cash, because we are going to need the MD-11 fleet to fly the postal contract after the first of the year and the Air Force wants our 767 slots for the tanker program.

You must be new around here! That is what they (the nay sayers) said about the 400's! If the market dictates, the old man will look into it! He is pretty smart when it comes to crunching the ole numbers on new airframes! It is amazing to watch! And the market is saying B777! Not 30, but dont be surprised with a few to keep competative!

30 777s aren't coming to UPS
Don't agree.
The 747 is the perfect aircraft for UPS, the 777 is basically a new MD-11 with better range and engines, it can't realistically compete with even the -400 in the route structures and time slots that work in the worldwide freight systems that FredEx and UPS run. The Asia direct MEM plan sounded good, but I see the 777 in ANC replacing the FredEx MD.
The attractiveness of the USPS contract is that by moving a few of the airplanes to different cites and utilizing planes parked during daylight hours, new revenue can be brought in without huge capital outlay (buying planes). It would, obviously be good for the IPA with more of us needed to cover new day flying. Any increase in flying would be great for getting our guys back and then the mystical "hiring of new guys", but UPS is not going to purchase new, used, discontinued, obsolete, or even Chinese copies of aircraft for a short term contract. I have watched USPS "reinvent" themselves by shifting flying consistently every 8 to 10 years to carrier after carrier. (the Evergreen years, then the Kallitta/Kitty Hawk/Express One years, Fedex, now......who knows). UPS won't buy airplanes for a contract with a customer with a record like that. The bottom line with USPS is their internal costs and waste are too high and their revenue for their air product is too low (They need to charge each customer more).
From the news I have been reading in relation to protecting oversees (TNT or European) jobs, TNT concerns me more right now than inspires me. UPS would love nothing more that to find a way to reduce oversees IPA presence.
