Just had some unexpected OJT with the Jepps EFB. Not intuitive at all, graphics still look like a Jepps plate with lots of clutter. Plus the thing boots up like a 90's era PC. Takes forever.

That is because it is a 90's era pc.

I would bet that when a topic of insstruction for pilots comes up, they ensure that the LMS lesson is less than 45 minutes long in order to not have to pay us for it. It seems that this topic needed to be longer than 45 minutes worth of instruction though. If it had been done right the first time, it would have required payment.

So I guess the question is, are they devious or just plain incompetent?

I think we often give them far too much credit for being able to concoct devious schemes. I think the answer is incompetence, but they seem to really enjoy the commotion it causes.

I stumbled across the new LMS module ("Electronic_Flight_Bag_(Non-B777)_012813") while I was accomplishing my annual recurrent CQ LMS before I saw the FCIF announcing the new module. When I attempted to do it, it locked up on a gray screen. I reported it, they fixed it, apologizing for technical difficulties. You're all welcome. I guess I'll have to do it now.

I just did the EFB LMS. Yuck. First, it's more than 15 minutes, closer to 25.

You're absolutely correct about not being intuitive. Why should I have to enter the departure airfield twice, once for the charts, and another time for the route? Why is there a "Rotate Left" and "Rotate Right" button? ANS: Because some of the charts have text printed sideways!

I'm sure we'll eventually figure out how to navigate through the wickets, but it's not because it's easy to figure out, and when we get right down to it, it's STILL the EXACT SAME CHARTS that we carried in our bags. Black text, white paper, NOT TO SCALE.

Entering the route requires you to remember the old way (Domestic Flight Plans, FAA format) with single and double dots (. (single dot) for a published route, .. (double dot) for "direct") vice the ICAO format we use exclusively now. If you remember that, great, if you don't remember it, or you've never used it, you'll have to learn something new in order to know how to enter the route.

Not impressed.

I'm not sure why the difference, but the charts I have seen on the iPad app are color and look very similar to the Lido product.

Because the EFB's are not iPads.

Lido was actually a better product from the outset. People just didn't like change. Maybe now it will become more obvious.
