Default Reliable wheels

I'm looking at getting an airport car to drive locally but on occasions can reliably make a 6 hour drive home. So milage wise I've limited my option to cars less than 130k miles. I have been looking cars similar to Hondas, Nissans and the Ford Focus that get decent gas mileage.

Any of you recommend a specific make and model?

used Honda Civic. get a 2 year old model and let someone else take the brand new car depreciation hit. buying 1-year old will not save that much, the savings comes at year 2 and of course year 3

I have an 01 Camry, 4-cylinder model, as an airport/drill car. Gets about 33 mpg highway/28 city. Enough room that I can " live" out of it when I need to for MIL stuff but still has cheap insurance rates and decent fuel economy.

I had a Toyota Yarus (4 door) rental a while back and that sucker got 40 MPG at 80. It handled descent and had good lumbar support for longer trips.

He has a point ... a had a VW as an airport car in MEM for several years and had trouble finding people to work on it. I replaced the VW with an American made SUV and later a Mustang ... no problem gettin' work done on my 'American' cars

Memphis and I agree on serviceability. I maybe be wrong but it seems like many of the Japanese brands can rack up the miles.

Try and go Jap, stay away from anything VW (except the old air cooled bugs) the liquid cooled VW's, of just about any vintage, can be maintenance nightmares.

That has not been my experiance, and I own three of them. My 2003 Passat with 115,000 miles has been rock solid, and my 2000 Golf with 126,000 hard miles is without a doubt the best car that I have ever owned. It is too soon to judge the 2012 GTI, but I notice that my wife tends to take that car and lets her E90 sit in the garage.
