Tony, do you really think pbs is important enough to the company that they play chicken with this company and risk wall street hearing about labor issues and a potential strike? Stock prices drop, worried customers bail for ups? Dont think so. PBS happens only if we let it.

Oh, we are so dumb! We should have asked for pay rates of $1,000,000/hour in our openers. The company would have said well that's a non-starter and then we could have just jumped straight to asking to be released in to self help and forgo this whole negotiation thing.
I believe it is important and good for us to have these types of discussions... I am curious about the timing of this Tony? Don't you think this subject might have been better discussed before we entered formal section 6 negotiations or the first time a union official uttered the word "non-starter"? The genie is out of the bottle on this one. Actually the genie was released several years ago because PBS has long been a non-starter for the crew force. This is not the first group of union reps to state that PBS is a non starter. The same goes for vacation and retirement. I've heard many, many reps voice and print that these items are "non-starters...sacrosanct...not on my watch" and so on. So let's not put the cart before the horse here. We have just started formal negotiations. If and when one or both parties asked to be released to self help the NMB will look at the pattern of bargaining that has taken place not just the opening response of either of the two parties involved.
So, in between face painting and the bounce house maybe a good question to our reps maybe what our counter proposal to PBS is but not "holy c**p can't the company just ask to be released in to self help because we said PBS in a non-starter!"
Again, I don't want to discourage dialog between us. Free speech is our right and a very important part of building trust amongst ourselves. But we also can't just yell fire when there is no fire. Formal negotiations have just started and we are a long, long way from anyone asking to be released to self help.

"Where are we headed today? Are we engaged and ready for battle, or are we happy and complacent with the appearance of peace? Could they impose PBS? Could we strike?

And a time to ask questions."

Openers are on the table..........time for the infighting to stop and all turn and face the common threat together. I for one have "buried my hatchet". I entreat any and all to join.....

I am confused first; a couple of months ago Tony C suggested the MEC might consider PBS and we need to call and get them on the record of opposing it. Now that the MEC has publicly stated PBS is a no go for them something is wrong???? *** over.
