"Captains employed by Express Freighters earn about $170,000 a year, half the salary of a Qantas captain flying a 747 passenger jet on international routes."

Now what was that exchange rate again?

Is just bout par right now. Qantas Freight is separate to Qantas and $170k would probably be about right for left seat in that operation. Who knows. Still love a job at atlas though!

Article says the contract is good at least into 2014 sometime....one thing for certain in the ACMI business...contracts come and go.

Qantas talks of buying planes and flying the cargo themselves every time the contract is getting ready to expire. They did it when Evergreen flew it as well. To try and keep the cost down in negotiations.
If Qantas buys their own they won't be able to do the JFK ORD HNL route and pick up/ drop off at each stop due to Cabotage laws.... Unless they decide to send a different flight from another country to each stop....

The real question for every ACMI carrier, is when will the contract end? It's not if.
