FedEx to outsource more capacity

Same difference! How could we be so stupid as to agree to such horrible scope language. Up till now the company has always preferred to use it's own aircraft, but now with things tight overseas, Fred will use this scope language to royally screw us.
This is the perfect storm for the company. Retiring the 727 and the 767 issue. I fully expect a return to threats of furloughs and 4a2b.

I do think they are going to right size us right down to UPS pilot size if the shipping habits of businesses and consumers don't go back to recent historical norms.
If guys do get furloughed at least Delta, AA and United will be ginning up hiring.

That's not much of a consolation to myself, and I imagine many other junior guys feel the same. After going through a furlough, bankruptcy and merger at the pax airlines there's no way I'd go back. I hope it doesn't come to furloughs because I actually enjoy this job, but if so I'm done with this industry.

If they threaten furlough then let them furlough. I am not willing to keep giving stuff up to keep people on property, especially when we have already given the company plenty of flexibility on manning costs, e.g., sig side letter on line purity, training conflict, sub.

You guys need to take a chill pill because some of you are starting to sound like some of the UPS guys, and that's not good. I can't remember the last time FedEx furloughed...Oh yeah, now I remember, NEVER.

And parking about as many as we get. Net number of aircraft to decrease by around 40.
UPS makes WAY more money than FedEx and they used to tell their newhires that it was the last job they'll ever have..... right up until they furloughed them. Don't say it can't happen here.
The company is looking at how much more profitable UPS is and why they have much larger profit margins than FedEx. The reason is UPS put volume on an aircraft if it's the ONLY way to make service. At FedEx, it's the default mode of transport, when other, less costly modes are available. FedEx is just now seeing the light and is trying to switch their system to use whatever transportation method is the cheapest and that will still make service.
This is a game changer at FedEx.

Ah... the "Pan Am" syndrome. We're big, we've been around a long time and our success in the past ASSURES us of success in the future. What could go wrong?

May 1 2013 275 Total Aircraft
May 1 2014 272
May 1 2015 274
You don't suppose this announcement has anything to do with contract talks, do you?

OK, you guys are welcome to live in a state of paranoia. It just seems a little premature to assume that this is the beginning of the end of FedEx as we know it. I just don't want to live my life with that fear. But you go ahead. It's your right to do so. I hope it will make you feel better.

And I do think it's pretty sad that you (MEMA300) would be willing to throw your junior brothers and sisters under the bus so you don't have to "give more stuff up." Guess you're not going after the "unity" award!
