FDX-Another Intl Deadhead Question
Front end deadhead to TPE (24 hr layover in LAX, then business class on EVA to TPE the next day).
1. Can I deviate and not have to rebook if there are 2 separate reservations with a 24 hr inbetween the 2 flights?
2. I received an email from global travel that's says Im booked on a flight with only 2 classes (no first class) even though the flight is 14 hrs and is due 1st class ticket. I called global, and the girl said she "thought" I am able to book any first class flight as long as it is a direct flight LAX to TPE regardless of the price.
So, before I go book a $6000 ticket with only $3000 DH bank, I wanted to ask the experts before I start calling global travel again.
Any gotchas if I book a 1st class ticket on China Air instead of business on EVA?

I believe that if you deviate on the second, the system is set up to cancel both legs and you'll have to rebook both legs. But, when you book the more expensive first class ticket on China Airlines, that higher ticket price becomes your new accepted fare. I've done it several times on that leg.
Confirm all of the above with corporate travel and crew travel audit, and reread the Chapter 8 section dealing with the special first class exception for over 16 hour duty. Good luck.

That would be Section 8.C.3.a.v. If a pilot scheduled for a nonstop deadhead over 16 hours on duty, who is not booked in first class, deviates from the scheduled flight in order to obtain first class on another carrier, the following shall apply: [complete text has Intents and Example]

Thanks, I actually live in LA, so, was looking to deviate on the MEM-LAX leg for sure, then, thinking about deviating on the second day LAX-TPE. Just wasn't sure about the bank money. Didn't want to get stuck with a $3000 overage bill for taking the 1st class China Air flight.
Do you recommend 1st Class China or is the business class on EVA fine?
No hassles with deviating into TPE....will be my first time there.
Thx

The reason you received the email from global travel is because CBA. This email will allow you to book a first class ticket on China Airlines regardless of the cost since the duty period excess 16 hours. The flight has to be direct and you must deviate. I did this flight several times and will definitely fly first on China and not business on EVA. The only catch is that you have to deviate going to TPE so make sure you have a backup.

Just did the China Air flt last week. Food was so-so but the seat was very nice. Cost was approx. twice the EVA flt but all covered. And email the ramp and they take care of the transportation.....it was easy pesy....

Like I said in the above post.....just email the Ramp. They take care of your ride, there will be a guy holding a sign with your name on it right outside of customs, and there is no charge......
