Default FEDEX: Deadheading out of Memphis = PITA

Scheduled deadhead to get me to Oakland:
MEM-IAH
IAH-SFO
SFO-OAK
$449
No deviation less than $580 from Memphis. My home to Oakland is cheaper but it's only a front and mid-trip deadhead.
Has service out of Memphis been reduced to this? That itinerary looks like I'm flying out of a very small regional airport...

Yes, it has! I've seen plenty of 2 leg DHs, a few 3 leggers! But at least MEM has that big shiny new parking garage! BTW - is SFO-OAK via GT??

Another BTW - had a guy contact me about swapping my IAD backend DH trip with his BOS backend DH trip. My bank was $440ish, his was $380ish. I needed to deviate to GSO (the reason I swapped into the IAD trip from an IND trip). When I looked at getting to GSO from BOS, the cheapest option built by Tripmanager/Global Travel was BOS-DET-PIT-ATL-GSO, and well over the bank. No other option could get me to GSO under bank. Needless to say, I opted not to swap and got to GSO in 1 leg and under bank. But I see DH issues at other locations than just MEM due to the "artificially" low accepted fares.

I recently flew a d/h IAH - DXB FIRST CLASS in Emarites Accepted fare >$10,000 ... I recommend them but it's probably tough to get from MEM to OAK on a major airline these days.

It is definitely getting dicey to get in and out of MEM. Just saw a DH to CGN that priced out with a bank of $6239 on UA/LH for $6239. Prices are a climbing int'l.

My IAD trip last week got revised (we were 15 min late and the layover was then too short). New bank = almost $1100.

I assume it also added a little "overage" to the trip too?

...some even at draft??

Folks really need to pay attention to the delays when there's a min time layover then backend DH

Even if your deviating, have them rebuild the pairing to include a legal layover

More pay, possibly an increased bank --- they may not rebuild it unless you ask

I'm not sure, but I think we lost a grievance on having CRS rebuild a pairing for legality (on the back end) when the pilot is deviating. I've heard others say, just cancel the ticket, but don't deviate, or at least not until the last minute.

Deviating doesn't mean one waives any legality in the subsequent layover or associated transportation to the layover hotel or access to the hotel room.

It just means, you waive the subsequent transpo back to the airport and the flight to Memphis

It doesn't matter if you head straight home or utilize the hotel and then head home, they are obligated to rebuild the pairing to CBA parameters

Too many guys are in a rush to DH /deviate straight out and don't take the time to call.

Make the call.... Pause... Then hit the deviate button

You only need to deviate 8 hrs prior on the backend and you will have at lest, if not more time when they rebuild the pairing to CBA requirements

8 min of extra pay, but no draft. The original pairing had a 2 leg DH with 2.5 hr turn in CLT. The revision had a later 1st leg departure and a shorter CLT turn, but connecting to the original flight.

But you are correct. I once got in a "discussion" with a scheduler who was resistant to rebuilding a pairing on a reserve assigned trip where the backend DH was about 5 mins late. I was adamant that he rebuild it and I ended up with an extra 0+01 CHs for the trip. That 1 min extra of leveling dropped me below 3 others. Once he saw that, he chuckled and said he saw my point.
