Default FedEx Hub Turn Meeting

Just got a Fastread that says there will be a hub turn meeting in Memphis today, July 11, 2013.

Could someone please post a synopsis of this meeting for those of us that cannot attend, but would like to keep up to date with negotiations?

Thanks.

I wonder why they posted the fast-read AFTER all the morning jumpseats had already departed for the day? What were they thinking!*?

Less people to ask tough questions...like:

"Why can a mechanic book a cockpit JUMPSEAT without Captains permission positive space and I can't?" (I know, we are waiting for Washington to Clarify...)

"Why are you discussing PBS so much if it is a non starter?"

"What is really happening at the table? In what decade are we going to see a TA, (with actual details and not vague talking points) for the membership to ratify, or vote down?"

"What is the status of the 777 crewmembers who didn't violate the CBA and were removed without pay by the 777 fleet captain? Are they going to get paid, or are we just going to let them flap in the wind and let them make it up out of the many open time trips they have to choose from?"

+1 on 777 crewmembers who didn't violate the cba. Guess John is just choosing to make up his own rules.... If anyone should be held accountable for this, it is him.

I do not know where you're getting this mechanics can book positive space jumpseat without captains permission. My understanding as a mechanic if you book online you cannot even book cockpit you have to call jumpseat and it has never been positive space unless it is a mechanic must ride for an AOG. Also the captain decides who sits where if he/she even lets us ride so if you happen to get different info than I have on it please let us know because I know no mechanic out there wants any special treatment over pilots and we're not asking for it. Our deal was we as mechanics were getting squeezed out of the jumpseat benefit due to a/c like the 767/777 without having cockpit access ability. None of us wants to encroach on your working space being in the back is fine but some guys commute and we are not in CASS like you guys and GOC are so FX is the only option for mechanics.

Exactly how would the union stop this immediately?

A pilot can only get positive space in the cockpit after he gets PIC/captain permission.

Mech's that end up in the cockpit due to seats, previous reservations, etc, are booked by JUMPSEAT admin in the cockpit, confirmed, no permission needed from the PIC prior to this.

The Captain can exercise his authority on this issue, deny the cockpit, etc, but that is after the fact.

Too many issues to discuss on this, but my statement is accurate.

FAR's also only allow a mechanic on the flight deck if he is on duty, and there is a need for him to be there. Personal jumpseats are not even a term in the FAR's.

I fully support giving mech's a ride. But that was'nt the issue I was addressing.

My opinion...

this isnt about a matter of "stopping". That isn't the issue. I welcome mechanics to fly. The way this was done was at very low level, and an attempt to circumvent the clear intent of the FAR's. (in my opinion)

Addressing it head on, some frank discussions and leadership, and use of previous federal decisions on this issue, that have been enforced here and at several other airlines would be the direction I would advocate.
