Default CGN to DUS

In a couple of weeks I have CGN trip with a layover long enough to bring my honey over for a couple of days. She's flying into DUS and I need to get from CGN to the airport in DUS to meet her. I know the train will take me over to DUS but I'm a little confused on which train station to get off at. There seems to be one station connected to the airport by the "Air Train" and another station that's actually in one of the terminals. I had thought the appropriate station was the one that was a short distance from the airport, but not sure. And if that's the right station, is the "Air Train" something that requires another ticket to ride, or is it a freebie, or can you walk from the station to the terminal?

Thanks in advance for your info.

Ask the concierge at the hotel. He'll book you the ticket and tell you what station to get off at.

There are actually 2 train stations in/near the DUS airport.

Just buy the ticket for the one that is called Dusseldorf Flughafen (DUS).

If you have an iphone you can download an app called DB Navigator (has a small red train symbol). You can then input where you are leaving from (Koln HBF) and type in "DUS" and it will show you all the train times for whatever day you input.

When you get to the airport station, block another 15 mintues to get from the platform to inside the terminal (You have to ride another small automated tram thing to get to the terminal).

you can look here too:

After you get to the main train station in dusseldorf, dusseldorf hauptbahhof, I think. You want to take the s11 train to "dusseldorf flughafen terminal." This will take you straight to the airport. When you exit the station you will just have to cross the street and you will be ground level at the airport. The other train the s1 will take you to dusseldorf flughafen, but not dusseldorf flughafen terminal. You would then have to take the air train thing to the terminal.

More questions...do you know if the ticket(s) you buy are train/time specific? I'll be in CGN going to DUS kind of early in the morning. Do you know if I could buy the ticket the night before for a next morning train? And finally, do you know if a round trip can be purchased with the return leg being for a different day?

Thanks for your help.

You can buy anytime/any direction tickets easily at the DB office, for 10.80€ each way. They work on any train combination, any time, to/from KÖLN HBF/DUS FLUG (easier than buying the tickets from the automated machines, IMO). The 10.80€ even includes U-Bahn connection to/from anywhere in Cologne. I carry a few of these 10.80€ tickets with me at all times when traveling. Just have to remember to "time stamp" before boarding train.
