Moving at the speed of negotiations.

Moving at the speed of negotiations. Coming to an airline near you. What can a union do to _______ (enter company name).? It is time.:D Remember negotiations is a marathon and not a sprint. How slow can you go?....................:)

Thought for the day.........................

I say we just accept the parking lot deal now and save 2-3 years of negotiations!

Management has shown a historical resistance to "giving" us ANYTHING. They wouldn't even give us Industry Standard Safety Programs (did we have the worst safety record in the industry?) until it became obvious that the government was going to REQUIRE THEM!!!

Pay raises ... have we ever received more than 3%/year? Did you see the recent study saying "real" inflation (gasoline, groceries) is nearly 24%? Looking at United's current pay rates, they MUST have received a recent big raise, they get 8% more next year I believe!*?

I suspect the company paid BIG BUCKS in order to successfully negotiate the Cargo Cutout but we don't have Flight Attendants so we don't get as tired as "real airline pilots."

I was required to move my locker to my airport car ...

It appears they now want ALPA to pay for CREWPASS ... Wasn't FedEx one of the original program sponsors?

Please give me my 3% now instead of 3 years and who know how much negotiating capital from now ...

For airlines that are just a few years out of bankruptcy their pay rates are catching up to ours. I would assume in another contract or two we will be behind again given our small pay raises from the last few contracts. Yeah yeah I know we got a better vacation policy (as we should given our night flying) and the promise of an A-fund (only because we have not declared bankruptcy). However, given that for the last 3 decades we have made consistent steady profits compared to the mainlines steady losses and bankruptcies shouldn't we be way ahead on pay rates?

What can a union do? The members can stop working on their days off, i.e., don't pick up trips.

Saw this work VERY effectively to get contract 2000 at UAL. Took a while to get 98% of 10,000 pilots on board, but once we did, and pilots stopped picking up trips on their days off it really helped move the contract to closure more quickly.

That tactic may not be as effective with a lack of open time, but that demand signal will change as we go towards peak. One of the very few things a membership can "do", that is perfectly legal, and within all bounds of the RLA.

The company makes working on your days off just "too easy" by building lots of carryover trips, which are manpower negative, if a carryover flyer does not protect min days off.

How about get everyone to jumpseat in Sunday and fly their scheduled DH on Monday. I'll bet it would only take one time to get some attention.

Probably can't tell/encourage folks to do that specifically but how about a FedEx ALPA BBQ w/ some free beer on Sunday afternoon in Memphis. Spread the word for a few weeks before the bid closes and get the interest level up - get folks to bite the bullet for a one day effort w/ some free food/drink as a reward and see what happens. Just a thought.

Or, guys plan ahead and invest a few hundred dollars in their future, Nah.

With all that is going on, remember to be safe. If you aren't stable, go around. Sure, it'll take 10 or 15 minutes to get back for a landing, but safety is paramount. The limo will wait.

Please tell me you are joking. There is not one thing wrong with flying a pairing as scheduled.

As for the BBQ, perhaps a little rah rah time for all of us on our dime would be good.
