1354 Memorial Shirts

This company was on the news talking about how they lost inventory in the accident & how they are going to make memorial tees with all profits going to the families.

Assuming they are genuine in the fact they will give the proceeds to the families, I think it is alright. I personally am not pleased with the text on the shirts and the obvious publicity they are seeking, but if the money does go to the families, that's OK I guess. I decided I wouldn't buy one after seeing the design and would prefer to support in other ways, but I figured I would share if anyone is interested....

A noble jesture by the tee shirt company. However...

100% of the profits from these tees will benefit the families of the pilots who lost their lives in the August 14th 2013....
Rather than buying tee shirts, provide a direct dondation to the families' memorial fund, when one has been set up. That said, one hundred percent of the cash will go for their benefit rather than a portion.

Just my 2 cents worth

"With all profits going to the families."

I don't think it is a noble gesture by the company at all. In one form or another, they're trying to capitalize on something that resulted in the death of two people. Not even a WEEK after it happened. Disgusting, really.

As captjns suggests, just donate directly to the families involved.

Absolutely agree with both of you. Any cash donation would be 100% to the families. I just figured I'd leave that up there in case someone isn't appalled by it. I think they could have at the very least made a more tasteful design if they're gonna milk the media.

Is there a website to donate to the families - if so, could someone post the address?

Here is Shanda's obituary. I don't have one for the Captain.

A memorial service for Shanda Renee Carney Fanning, age 37, of Lynchburg, formerly of Shelbyville, will be held Monday, August 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Brother Mark Hall officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Fanning, a pilot for UPS, died as a result of injuries sustained in a aircraft crash in Birmingham, Alabama early Wednesday morning. Per Shanda's wishes, she was cremated.

A Celebration of Life reception will begin at 4:00 p.m. Monday in the fellowship hall of Fair Haven Baptist Church, 2726 Hwy. 231 North, Shelbyville.

A native of Bedford County, she is the daughter of Eph "Sonny" and Wilma Kay Carney and was preceded in death by a brother, Chad Legrand Carney.

She was a 1994 graduate of Shelbyville Central High and then graduated from MTSU in 1999. She flew her first solo at age 16, later piloted a Beech 400 for Triton Boats where she piloted President George W. Bush, then went on to fly for Fraction Air, Continental Airways and then to UPS.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, are her husband of 3 1/2 years, Bret Fanning of Lynchburg, and brother Chris (Misty) Carney of Mulberry, in-laws, Joe and Gerry Fanning of Lynchburg, 2 nephews and 1 niece, 11 horses, 2 dogs, 1 donkey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shanda Carney Fanning Aviation Scholarship or Horse Rescue Fund, Regions Bank, 101 Elm St. Shelbyville, TN 37160 (931) 685-1479.

Doak-Howell Funeral Home is serving the family.
