Deviation into CAN
I know its been discussed, but does anyone know of a good way to get to CAN? Plus GT from airport to Hotel. I have a 3 day commute and the bank sucks...
Thanks. PS trying to stay on Delta for miles.... |
I like going to HKG and taking the limo (I know the issues, but it's door to door and easy, just a long ride) or the train. If you stay at the HKG Sheraton, you can get a ride to the train station and the Marriott will pick you up in CAN.

If you get to the CAN airport, you can take the Guangzhou subway/metro & get off right outside China Hotel.
Take Airport South station (Line 3) to connect to Line 2 & get off Line 2 at Yuexiu Park station - follow signs to Exit #D1 - brings you out on the sidewalk just outside China Hotel side entrance. Also taxi or bus from CAN airport to China Hotel - subway/metro is piece of cake. Not sure about flights with Delta miles? - Dragon Air from HKG to CAN is quick/reasonable price, but they are OneWorld (American Airlines) I think |

Thanks. PS trying to stay on Delta for miles.... If you use trip manager, check out the Oct 2013 fares. NRT-CAN on JL is $1800 while MU is $1200 and CZ is $800. Same airplane for all 3 tickets (JL metal, which is good if you're still wondering about Chinese de-ice procedures based on last winter). If you don't use trip manager, I would recommend it. The instructions about the train/subway to the China hotel are spot on. It's very easy, cheap and probably the best option other than a Parklane limo ride from the normal provider. |
Train is the best bet by far. I do it often.

Deadhead to Narita and then company jumpseat to CAN. Be nice to the operating crew and ask to share their ground transportation. The ramp will ensure there is a van if there will be 3 of you and you give them advance notice.

If so, be advised, I did that a while back & had a tough time explaining my "Crew Visa" to the train immigration police in the CAN station. Make sure you have a Chop Letter if you do the train from HKG to CAN. It is different for the guys/gals assigned to HKG - they have a different type of Visa than non-HKG-based crew members. A HKG-based guy ahead of me in the line sailed right through. The train ride itself was nice/comfortable/affordable. |
