ABX Air pulls ahead
Today, August 1st, ABX Air pilots get a contractual raise (their last; contract becomes amendable next summer). Their hourly rates are now the new benchmark in the industry:

I don't think we at UPS will see rates this high with our future TA. We already make a lot of money with our piddly hourly rates thanks to our flexible open time pickup policy. UPS will exploit this. Plus our guarantee is very high, 25% higher, than ABX. That has to factor in.

The problem is, ABX has just as liberal an open time pickup policy as you do at UPS. That's why several DC-9 captains made over $300,000 last year.
At UPS, when you get your sick checks or fly an open trip, aren't you paid based on your hourly rate?
You guys have a nice fat guarantee, but that's just a cover for a weak hourly rate.
