[QUOTE=TonyC;92767]If my kids get caught with drugs, they'll be begging to be locked up so I won't be able to get to 'em.

My sentiments EXACTLY! I've been preaching to my 3 kids about this since they were old enough to understand the words coming out of my mouth. So far, so good. They are now teenagers and it's been clear sailin'. However, I will still be holding my breath until they're 21!

Pilot 7576 -- good point as well!

Koz -- How old are you? If you are indeed a pilot, I don't want to be a passenger while you're up front anytime soon with your cavalier attitude.

In Koz2000's defense, I'm not sure his attitude is cavalier. I think the point he was making is that it happens a lot more than we read about, and the kid's name is probably responsible for it getting more press than if he were Cannon Smith... umm, ok, bad example, that is his name... ok, Cannon Jones.

Ok, TC -- thanks for the clarification.. BUT, still didn't READ like he thought it was that big a deal. Hope I'm wrong on that.

It's Collierville, for christsakes! Everyone gets arrested there. For nothing at all. The majority of cops are part timers who get off by flashing their big guns at folks that didn't do anything but maybe go 41 in a 35. Let the bastards go and arrest some real criminal. Nooooo. That would be too dangerous, so they sit and hide along Poplar, just waiting to pounce. The lowest of the low.

As well, from what I read, it was not the Smith kid that had the dope (although they both were dopes), but the other guy. It's gotta be tough, growing up in Memphis, having Fred for a father, knowing that everything you do and say will be used by some asswipe reporter. Anyone whose been involved with FedEx for some time knows that there have always been issues with Fred and his children. It's not really news, and this is just more of the same. As someone already posted, if it had been any other kid, we would have not been reading about it. Being in the public eye has gotta suck, big time. Unless of course you happen to be Angelina Jolie, and then it's ok with me.

I've never been arrested in Collierville, for anything.

Smith was arrested for speeding and possession of ecstasy.

His buddy was arrested for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

I happen to live in Collierville and the police department here the best of the ones in the many places I have lived. The department is nationally accredited which not every PD can brag about. True, they don't put up with speeding, but that is what we pay them for.

Yes I do have kids and I've told them that if they ever get arrested don't bother calling me since I'm not bailing them out. Yes any valid arrest/conviction is a big deal to an individual and is a big deal to me. I know I'm raising my kids much better than that and I'd be crushed if I did find out they were "acting stupid." I've set pretty high moral standards that I hope they follow.

Old enough, Fortunately you'll never ride as a passenger with me unless you're jumpseating or you ship yourself in a box.

Tony hit the nail on the head. If his name was Jones, no one would know about it. This is why there's a thread called Ask Tony...

I feel sorry for you. First for living in Collierville, and secondly because you state "the police department here (is) the best of the ones in the many places I have lived." I can't even imagine. I've spent 16 years driving into and out of Collierville, and can honestly say that department suc#s. All I ever see, is them ticketing folks. Mostly certain folks. And another thing, I didn't think that all those part-time cops are paid for their "service" to the republic. Could be wrong, however, because I no longer have any concern with that town.

I'd bet you won't stop worrying about them when they turn 21. You worry about them until you're gone. Hopefully before they do. It's the way it's supposed to be.

Oops . . . you tried to quote a botched quote, and it looks like I said that -- it was wild4theuniform, not me.
