Fdx. Deep south 757
I'm hearing rumors of the 757 taking over VCP triangle. I'm not sure of the veracity.
I'm hearing the MX in VCP has completed 757 training. Since 757 has no RFO capability, crews would fly 1 leg, crew change, 24 off (3 crews- 1 crew per layover city). However, Argentina's economy is entering meltdown mode again. So that could put the kibosh on that notion. Any other info out there? |
[QUOTE=Redeyz;1567283]I'm hearing rumors of the 757 taking over VCP triangle. I'm not sure of the veracity.
Since 757 has no RFO capability, crews would fly 1 leg, crew change, 24 off (3 crews- 1 crew per layover city). Why only one leg? The MD-11 was doing VCP-EZE-SCL then laying over. The SCL-VCP. Wouldn't that rotation work with 2 crews? But there would still be some DHing involved and probably need 3 crews in theater to keep the flow going. |
I think any 757 flying would be handled as the 727 was. One crew, fly all night and do the triangle; rest for 36 hours! Cheers!

3 crew vs 2
The duty regs for 2 pilots vice 3 pilots is more restrictive. The duty on the 3 legs is about 11:00 (maybe 11:30). Block is about 8:30.
2 pilot crew is not legal for that mission. MD could do RFO. But 757 has not rest facility for RFO. |
It's a rumor. Ain't gonna happen. $$$ is the issue (as always).

I've flown VCP-EZE-SCL in the MD-11 with only 2 pilots (WITHOUT an RFO). Why couldn't a 757 crew do that?
We had a layover in SCL followed by a deadhead back to VCP. The deadhead was very hard. Lots of "paperwork/visa" type issues. If you 757 folks end up doing this leg make sure to get the deadhead gouge. |

When I went to training in April 2013, I heard it was a sure thing starting in June 2013. Didn't happen. When I went to training in September 2013, I heard it was a sure thing starting after peak. Hasn't happened. I would like to see it, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
BTW, I heard 2 legs with a layover and 1 leg the next night. |

I think FedEx should resurrect the 727 and let real pilots fly the Triangle of Death. There, I said it
