HKG Glasses
 

Guys, just a quick ?. Last post I saw about getting glasses made in HKG or TPE was in '09. Anyone had a good "recent" experience in getting glasses made in Asia? Heard they make them in the 580 market as well in PVG. Bought cheaters there that were very good for around $5 but never tested the water in getting prescriptions ground there. Any advice would be appreciated.

MK Optical in Mong Kok down on Nathan. They are just prior to a Spaghetti Warehouse near where you would make a right to go into the Ladies Market. There are gals handing out flyers on the sidewalk. I've had them make me several pairs, never had a problem. They can turn them same day if need be, but definitely within 24 hours. Very reasonable prices (includes the exam).

Dragon at the Science and Tech in Shanghai does a great job on all types of glasses. Cheaters, prescriptions and prescription sunglasses.

I got a pair in TST in HKG, the guy told me I was getting the best lenses made and the scratch resistant lenses and coatings..bla bla bla..........
Six months later they were dreadfully scratched. I took them to the local guy in my small town, and lady there was shocked that they were this scratched in 6 months. I kept the frames, got two pair from them for about the same price as I paid in HKG, have had zero problems with scratches........after 2 years. The other pair is unworn! Im done with HKG and glasses and watches and suits and shirts....... stay home and buy American!

I always thought it was comical that a professional pilot would by knockoff eyeglasses. Kind of like Tiger Woods buying his clubs at the 580.

Had my 3rd pair of prescription sunglasses made 4/13 -- all have worked well and have been durable -- not the cheapest but certainly around half of what you would pay in US...

By the way it helps if you bring your prescription with you from home. But he can use your old glasses and I believe he does a free exam -- Generally, they are ready for pick-up in 24 hours but he can work with you on the times.
