FDX: Partial Deviation

Anybody catch this in this week's FastRead?

Did you know that due to a programming change you can now deviate per accepted fare or per ticket, as long as the deviation does not break an accepted fare or a ticket? For example if your trip is scheduled with a front-end deadhead MEM-DFW-LAX, legal rest period and then LAX-PVG, you can deviate MEM-LAX, and retain the LAX-PVG scheduled deadhead. Previously if you wanted to deviate on one leg, both legs would be cancelled. If you have any questions please contact Contract Enforcement
Good stuff...

A good partial fix, but not complete. It appears that a legal rest period along the way is required.

If for example, your deadhead is just MEM-DFW-LAX and you want to deviate on the MEM-DFW leg, you'll still lose both legs if you deviate. We should be able to deviate MEM-DFW and then pick up the second leg DFW-LAX, as scheduled. It used to be that way under the previous contract.

I disagree. That would require global travel to book two completely separate reservations. One booking from MEM-DFW and then another booking DFW-LAX. That'll never happen because it would cost more and create more headaches and problems than the actual benefit.

The only 'legal rest' period that is requires is to be in position 12 hrs prior to pick up time before a revenue leg.

That wasn't really part of the contract, what was true was that the chief pilot stated that if you caught up with the scheduled you would be protected.

What they arbitrarily changed was automatically canceling the ground transportation part of the Scheduled pairing. A big deal in some cities.

On a somewhat related topic:

Has anyone had any success expensing the $100 Global Entry fee? I have some extra bank this month and wondered if it might work.
