SkyLease Cargo

Any guys here at SkyLease or have any info on them? Would this be a good route to take to get on to Atlas in a few years?

What I know isn't much but this... not really commutable... probably have to live in Miami.... probably helps if you speak spanish .... pay is even less than where I work... they have MD-11s ... and have been brining on 1 or 2 747-400s

They've got two 400's at the moment, with a total of 10 planned I believe. It's not really a commutable job, but there are guys who are somehow managing it. It's a sister company with Centurion; if I'm not mistaken, the plan is to move all the MD-11's to the Centurion side of the house, leaving Sky Lease with all the 400's.

(The bottom fell out of the 400 market recently. Apparently it's cheaper to pick up a used 400 than put an MD-11 through a C check.)

Pay is pretty low, but the work rules apparently allow you to creatively "fill the gap".

As far as using it as a stepping stone to get on with Atlas, no real advantage here. Atlas lately has been hiring heavily from the regional side, while almost completely ignoring those of us already in the ACMI wide body world. (At least, those of us who tried to get on from my company.) This might change if lots of their junior guys start migrating over to the majors. Time will tell.

If you live in Miami, give it a shot!

I've heard similar stories.

Well, except they recently smacked a tug in Rio and I think the plane is still grounded there for lack of parts (maybe?), so I'm not sure if they have 2 -400's operational...

It is their -F, not the BCF. It was back in MIA this morning.

Thanks. I'll stay regional and keep pushing on Atlas. And keep running United and American as second.

Prolly your best bet.

The other thing to consider is that SkyLease is in desperate need of qualified 400 drivers. With Evergreen and World shutting down, there's a lot of competition out there, even for this company.

Staying where you're at and plugging away at Giant sounds like a good idea.

My recommendation is to keep Atlas, UA, and AA, and others like DL, etc...All as number one choices, and then decide. Don't favor one over the others at this early stage.
