Default FedEx CBA- Block 1 Rep Reindeer Games ?

I heard some information from a reliable source that our MEC is once again under a state of disarray which is a direct contributing factor to the delay in obtaining a new CBA.

The most disturbing part of the story I have heard is that the Block 1 Representative is the architect of the internal strife by holding small group MEC meetings, ignoring the advice of the Negotiators and making a full on attack on one of the best and brightest Union volunteers we have at FDX, the Retirement Chair.

The Block 1 Rep is specifically laying down road blocks to agreeing to implement a retirement negotiation strategy that has promise of meeting our collective needs. Rather than being concerned about what should arguably be the most important single item for his Block he is concerned about FDA LOA improvements more. I heard that there is a potential path to continued retirement benefits security which will allow more members to retire and thus open up critical seniority slots for the junior pilots or eventual new hires.

There is a MEC Local meeting in Memphis today and I can’t be there and will address these concerns directly with my block rep but if anyone is attending is looking for a good topic of conversation I can think of none better than trying to confirm or dispel this very concerning event.

We simply can’t afford to unravel, again, and at the exact time we should be united. The power or influence of this single rep is quite possibly the exact distraction that could cause our NC and MEC from securing the CBA we all have earned.

The Block 1 Rep appears to be acting more like the super senior young guy that has no real world experience to represent his Block constituents let alone be the face of the MEC. I hope this is a bad source but unfortunately I am quite confident in the source providing good insight behind the veil.

How true his daddy got him the job at purple. He had min time. He flew for some now defunct regional south of MEM. He has zero international cred. Knows nothing about FDA. Generally an unpleasant fellow with some kind of inferiority chip on his shoulder. Needs to lay of the "t" shots. Ask an F/O that flys with him if you can find one that hasn't "been thrown under the bus." You voted him in...good luck Ok just a joke he is a super guy flys great and is a joy his insight and leadership are noteworthy.

I hope this is not true and I think we should keep this kind of stuff internal. We have seen plenty of damage from friendly fire already in this Union.

I will offer that if someone is messing with Ken B. then we should all be very concerned as he is a valuable asset to all of us. He is exactly the kind of guy we can trust to keep the eye on the prize.

Which is why some of this stuff needs to aired publicly. If our goal is to increase the retirement to 30 years great, but we ought to know it is our goal before it comes time for the 95 to 5 vote approving the next contract.

That is what caused the 2006 division, not the extra goodies for some members but the fact that it was snuck into the contract.

From a recent Council 79 meeting:

"Scott (NC Chair) stressed that one of the biggest ways we could support the negotiations team is to STAY OFF of gossip websites such as APC, Jetflyers, Facebook, etc. Most of what you see on these sites is just plain wrong. Let the negotiating team do their job, and quit creating/supporting/continuing rumors."

So you are not taking his advice either, or did he mean read them but do not post

The main concern I have is that what is purported to be going on behind the scenes is doing just that; preventing the NC from doing their job.

Thumbs down

2cylinder,

Why should this contract pay to incentivize you to retire? More bennies for select few, that will likely not retire anyway. Reminds me of those guys I flew with in the Navy, b1tch about the bonus amount when the reality is they aren't getting out anyway.

Btw, I don't care if guys stay at this point.

Never said that at all. What I heard was he (BLK1) was heading a group of guys that are opposed to the path the Retirement Experts and NC wants to investigate as a way to bargain this area.

FWIW, I agree that any change should not be to "entice" guys to go. It will not happen anyway but what could happen is guys would retire if we simply KEPT what we have and continue the re-balance of DB to DC that has occurred over that last 2 CBA's (1999 and 2006).

There is a camp that is waiting to see what changes and if nothing major changes to enrich their current lot in life, well then maybe some might actually go?
