FDX - Name change question

I've flown with / met a handful of guys on the property that use their middle name instead of their first name at work. I would like to do the same. I just called the PAC about doing this and they said I may run into problems clearing Customs when flying international because my name will not match up on my ID versus the Gen. Dec.

Can anybody shed any light on this for me? Thanks.

I've had my first initial and middle name on my ID for 18 years and have only run into one minor issue at Dubai. Otherwise, it hasn't been an problem.
BTW, to get your ID to show your middle name, I was told you have to temporarily change your first name on the green screen to your first name initial, a blank space, and your middle name; i.e., (T. Middle). And I believe, you then leave your middle initial blank - not sure on that one.

I called scheduling (many years ago) and they changed my first name to what I wanted to be called (pairing, bid pack, etc.). My full legal name remains on my ID, PFC, passport, etc.

Mike vs Michael, Rob vs Robert, ...

Sounds like it's not a big deal. Thanks!

And this advice was based on their vast experience flying their cubicles to where?

Customs doesn't give a rip about what name is on your ID or the Flight Plan Release, or the VIPS pairing. You have a passport, you have a General Declaration. No problem.

Not true as has been noted already about DXB. I've run into a few immigration folks who compared my ID, Gen Dec and passport. I used to use my initials on my ID and that caused a problem when compared to the passport/Gen Dec.

I didn't say you would never encounter a, shall we say, less than knowledgeable customs or immigration officer. Do you know of a single case where a crewmember was denied passage because of something on his company ID?

I didn't realize this was so easy. I'm going to change my name to a symbol, like "the artist formerly known as prince" did a few years back. Can't wait to meet all the nice folks in line in China, Dubai, and India...

Do we need to worry about an influx of "Strikers", "Mavericks" "Notsos" or whatever someone was called back at the RAG or Tyndall?? Hell, let's just have Call Sign nights during hubturns! It'll be great!

Or you can go with a rainbow flag in celebration of your F-15 heritage. :p
