Council 7 update

Council 7 update
It doesnt require a lot of thought to take the hint....stomp, stomp. Pass the word along. There just might be a chance of some cohesive "unity" if everyone did what they know should be done. And for those that dont know what has to be done, a friendly reminder may help.
Where are we, and where are we going?
In the meaningful sections of the contract, management has made very little to zero movement off their opening positions. The reality is we are a long way from getting the contract we all deserve. This process is dragging out way too long. Your negotiating committee is meeting with management 03June through 06June. If management continues to slow play the process, we could very well be headed to the NMB. While we have a very good relationship with the NMB (they are kept up to date with our situation regularly), and would welcome their assistance if that later proves necessary, we prefer to negotiate rather than mediate.
The crew force has to take ownership of this process. Your MEC reps, officers, and committee members cannot get this done without the participation of the pilots NOW!
We get asked all the time why we don’t tell pilots what to do. We are in a “status quo” relationship with management while we are negotiating. That would only change after an impasse with the NMB and then after a 30-day cooling off period. At that point, you will get a lot of direction.
So what can you do NOW to help get us a contract?
1. Take personal ownership of the process and quit waiting on someone else to start.
2. If in the next few months we call for informational picketing, it is a must attend event, and you will have time to bid accordingly.
3. Attend Joint Council meetings, pub events, and family awareness events.
4. Read everything the union publishes and get informed.
5. Do not show up for management hub turn meetings. Let your Negotiating Committee interact with management.
6. Wear your lanyard. It is the very least you can do. It matters.
7. Let managers know you are unhappy with negotiations.
8. Buy a hat.
This is just a short list and it’s up to each individual to do all he/she can to help the process.
Get mad, get involved, get educated, and get ready. It is time to get the contract you deserve, and it will not happen without YOU!
