Who can tell me the phone # of Hidemyass so I can contact them by phone. I sent them an email to cancel my account, but got no reply.

Ehhhh... sometimes. I've been in a lot of hotels where the "wired" connection simply plugs into a wireless bridge strapped to the bottom of the desk.

Also, you're still sharing the LAN with everybody else in the hotel, whether you're connecting with a cable or wirelessly. A VPN is essential! (My new ASUS router offers a VPN server as a feature, so I usually use it when I'm in hotels or other public networks.)

HMA is UK based and has no telephone support which is typical of VPN providers.

VyprVPN is Swiss based and enjoys the strict privacy philosophy of the Swiss.

PIA (privateinternetaccess) is US based which can be good or bad depending on your priorities, personal philosophy of privacy and internet behavior. The NSA pretty much trumps any guarantee of privacy these days no matter where you or your provider are located but there are some legal rights available under US law that you would not enjoy with a non-US provider.

I've been meaning to sign up for VPN for a while and after reading this thread did some research and decided on PIA. Bottom line is I think it provides the best bang for the buck. Only drawback is no free trial or money back guarantee, but for $40/yr who cares.

Thanks, av8rdude for starting this thread and Happy Father's Day to all who are taking the time to enjoy their summer! The grill is calling.

Do any of these work with an Ipad or Android operating system?
I'm trying to not take my laptop around as much due to weight/space issues.

So a rookie newbie question.....
When you use this...do you have to start the program before getting on the net? Is it automatic when you connect? I have never used one of these.....Flame on

I use Witopia. It is automatic. It starts when it senses your internet connection. I would guess that most VPNs have an automatic feature.

+1 on Witopia..very stable, lots of connection locations, it's worked everywhere I've flown US and internationally, and I haven't seen it slow down my connection speed.
