Hide My Ass VPN on sale

FYI: Hide My Ass VPN service is having a summer sale. $60 for a year. I'm gonna try it out. Supposedly, it lets you watch Netflix, Hulu, HBO, etc., anywhere in the world just like you were back in the states. But the main reason is better security and privacy when using public wifi like at hotels and coffee shops.

Anyway, I think whoever runs this site gets a little kickback if you click on the Hide My Ass ad that shows up here pretty often. Maybe even more if you actually subscribe after clicking the ad. Doesn't cost you any extra, but might help keep this site running. Just sayin'...

I use https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/ and really like it. It's easy to set up and is
only $40 per year.

I use HideMyAss all over Europe and Israel, works great for Netflix, streaming ESPN, etc...

I had Hotspot Shield for awhile and HATED it. It stopped me from getting into many websites, and would just stall. Then I'd realize, oh, it's fricking Hotspot Shield, and shut it down. Even if you had it off, it would spontaneously come on whenever it felt like it. Terrible. I recently uninstalled it.

I'll check out these other ones, though.

I use my one HMA account on my laptop and iPhone, company iPad and my wife's iPad and laptop.

I also use HMA on my PC and phone, and it works well. As far as privacy goes, they are out of England, and if you download torrents and your ISP wants to find out who you are, you may not be anonymous.

When they charged my credit card for the annual fee, the charge showed as coming from Holland (Netherlands). My credit card company initially declined it, but then approved it after contacting me directly.

You can install the VPN software on as many devices and platforms as you like, but only two of them can use the VPN service at one time. I installed it on all my devices that ever leave the house, but only actually use it when on public wifi. No problems so far.

I wouldn't connect to any public wifi or hotel/coffee shop wifi without using my VPN. I also make sure to ask the staff what the exact wifi name is before connecting.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen "Marriott free wifi" or "airport free wifi" or something similar. Those are people waiting to steal you're information and whatever is on your device.

I bring a router/airport express with me and connect via cable if available. It adds another layer or protection.

And certainly NEVER connect to your bank or retirement accounts while using public wifi unless you absolutely have to.

Much better service than HMA.
