FedEx...Airbus...and LIDO?
Yea…recurrent training, and this was the latest and greatest. We are getting “hands on” training with the EFB via a laptop…descent presentation. Simulators will be fitted with the EFB in the next 3-4 months and will be used after install. FedEx has NO PLANS on installing the EFB on the AIRBUS for “up to” the next 30 months…yea that’s about 2 ½ years. It will take about 3 years to get the Airbus fleet configured.
I have a feeling that there is a bean counter somewhere asking…if this LIDO paper thing works…and we are saving all this money why are we spending the money on this EFB???
BWP…out!

The goal has always been the EFB, and the paper LIDO is just a painful intermediate step. The EFB will be easier and cheaper to update, and easier to use.
No more taking time to inventory pages before you block out. (You do
that, right?) No more taking time to put pages away after you block in. (You do that, right?)

The Grass WILL be Greener
Of course Tony…I didn’t say anything negative about the EFB…just an update that FedEx will not install them for up to 2 ½ years…then another 3 before done. That is over 5 years…and in the mean time we will be using them in the and tested in the Sim…
Getting a check-ride with equipment that we don’t have? Questionable…we will see how long it takes before this MOD is complete. I know we can add it to the list of, cockpit doors, idc900, still a couple “goggles” out there, how about them PAT’s/APLC, they are discontinuing the 3rd gear safe mod, escape ropes, oh yea…we will see the EFB real soon.
I guess this will be good practice so that when the A380 gets here I will know how to use the EFB! Sweeeeeet.

I can see putting them in the Sims first to TRAIN, but I agree that they shouldn't be evaluating on a system that's not in the airplane.

Is it true thet Luftansa (LIDO owner) does not use LIDO. Is it not also true that Jet blue stopped using them. Didn't Delta try paperless?
Has any one flown the new RNAV STAR's? Where are the altitudes? (TAMMY @ 10 etc). Cany you read the Taxi diagrams black on greay at night?
How many millions did it cost? Yet the loose leaf binders are TOTALLT UNSAT, in that they are cheap junky and dont allow page turning.
Just my view but very few check the pages or sign the LIDO log. Thankfully only a few dont put them away when done.
Dont get me wrong. I'm for not carrying/ updating a JEPP. But if were going to do this, then lets get with it and do it right.
The out going chief pilot would always mention unshinny shoes and mis parked cars. Hope the new guy is more operationally minded.

But back to EFB and training. I posted this before and stand by it: Those "VOLUNTEERS" who demonsratated the EFB in the hub were COMPENSATED. Nobody came in on thier day off and "volunteered" to work for free. And for you who will say they did, come on THEYRE PILOTS.
Are we all trained? Why did this program stop? Thats all we get for something in comming in 5 years.

EFB training...
As I mentioned above…in Airbus recurrent training there was a very thorough training event with “laptop” versions of the EFB. It was a good training…for an introduction to the system.
The instructors then told us that even though the EFB will not be installed on the AC for quite some time the sims will be fitted with the EFB in the next few MONTHS and we will be getting training on them in the sim…including an ADDITIONAL LOE ride…that will be “normal ops” using 100% EFB. So we can expect an additional day in the sim!

All Maddogs are getting EFB with C checks, and the whole fleet should be complete in the next 18 months. The guys who have flown with it say it's totaly awesome!
Frankly, the only dudes that should be complaing are the Boeing guys, they have some real issues. The rest of you get over it! It's here to stay.
Yep it's not jepps, it has somethings that are better, some worse. It's not perfect, and neither were the jepps.
