Packing for trips

I am new to the forum, but have gotten alot of good info so far. I am retiring from the navy after flying P-3's for the past 22 years. I am starting a career with Kalitta in Sept. Any gouge on how to pack for a 15 day trip in a "overhead" size suitcase?

Sure, count on doing some laundry.

You'll visit some interesting places working for Connie...

Pack for 5 to 7 days of clothing and plan on doing laundry on the road once or twice. Count on wearing jeans 3 to 4 times before washing them, so you only need one or two pair max. I wear shirts at least twice, and uniform shirts enough legs until they're simply too filthy to wear anymore :) Pack thin fabrics and dress in layers during colder weather months. I pack a jumprope for exercise, some fellas use those rubber bands for simulated weights. Definitely bring a laptop along unless you're a recluse.

A trick to packing efficiently is using Eagle Creek clothing folders. Here's a link- http://www.eaglecreek.com/graphics/m...ckitfolder.htm

They work great, and your clothes don't bunch up in your suitcase due to gravity.

Bring plenty of reading material. I always stop by a Borders or Barnes and buy some books before my international trips.

Don't forget undershirts for your uniform wearing days, it's the thing I forget most.

You'll get a feel for what to bring and what not to after two long stretches, I can promise you. Trial and error will make you a pro in no time.

Hey thanks for the info. As the FE on the P-3, I always brought as much as I wanted and more. This will take a little creativity. I am looking forward to it.

pack for about 8 or 9 days figuring on doing laundry once in the middle sometime. Hkg is cheap, ANC, EWR LAX, maybe even JFK have machines in the hotels. The hotel in AMS will do it, but kind of pricey, Okbk wil dry clean a set including underwear free. Uniform shirts will last since most guys only wear them to and from the hotels (except maybe on oe).

Try use the spacesaver bags for the t-shirts and underwear it helps alot and you have something to put your dirty clothes into. If you have time before you leave print off some article that you have wanted to read. When done toss it!
