Why does anyone need an excuse to block their calendar? I don't block mine, but I'm confused why several posters on this forum feel it is their RIGHT to view other pilots schedules? Maybe I missed the memo in my first decade here, but I'm seriously interested where this mindset originated. What exactly are your rights regarding viewing other pilots schedules? I actually have the gall to ask.

However, a lot of strange things grow in darkness --- and sunshine can be a very powerful disinfectant
Life is full of choices & actions --- folks are free to decide --- other folks are free to observe and contemplate

Thank you for not reading the question and providing absolutely nothing to this conversation. You are highlighting yourself in a very similar manner right now.

There are no rights to view other pilots' schedules, and each pilot has an absolute right to hide his own. This isn't about rights.
It's about TRUST.
An essential ingredient to unity is TRUST. If I don't trust you (or anybody else -- don't get your panties in a twist because I chose that pronoun), it's more difficult to rest assured that you're on my team, on my side, on OUR side.
That's why we demand transparency from our leaders. We want them to be open and honest so we can feel confident that they are doing the right things because we can see what they're doing, so we can trust them, support them, be on their side, know they're on OUR side -- unity.
When the veil of secrecy starts to come down, trust evaporates, and unity vanishes. When you're hiding something, the natural first assumption is that it is bad. If you're doing something bad, you must not be on OUR team. Another strike against unity.
If we're on the same team, watching each others' backs, building real unity (not the kind you read about in motivational drivel), we don't keep secrets from each other. We don't hide what we're doing. We don't sneak around, even if we're doing nothing wrong, because sneaking around gives the impression that we are. We appreciate the importance of appearances, so we take great care to ensure that we don't even appear to be doing something wrong. Openness builds trust, and trust builds unity. Secrecy does the opposite.
It's fundamental human behavior, observed even in developing toddlers. Have you ever known a 4-year-old to hide something good, or to want to brag about having done something bad? Usually they'll do the opposite. If he's hiding something, you can almost guarantee it's bad (or at least he thinks it is), and if it's something he thinks is good, he can't wait to brag about it, to share it with everyone who will listen. The same concept holds true still now. If you're hiding something, the first suspicion is that it's bad.
Want unity? Want me to trust you? Don't hide your schedule.
But, of course -- it's always the pilot's choice.

Flex instructors calendars don't show all of their events. So even though their calendars are "open" they will not show how some of them work nearly every day, most certainly a lot at more than straight time. How is building the trust you speak of TonyC.

I'll recognize your question after you apologize to Jetjok for your second post.
