Ive done a couple of grace month sims and it doesnt move the date. Not sure a month early would either. BTW a grace month sim is also a good scheduling tool. Knocks out a trip and sub for any uncovered days.

Your due month doesn't change. They are just giving you your training the month before it is due.

I called the bus sim scheduler and she said they'd moved a large number of people from their due month into November, because of peak. I don't think there is anything in the contract that stops this from happening.

Looks like they're proactively bracing themselves for peak, while simultaneously dragging their feet at the negotiations table

Hmmmm....

Perhaps, they're concerned Vacation Buy Backs and Advanced Volunteer won't be sufficient

Bingo! They don't expect a contract by Peak!

So let me sum this up:

There is no contractual reference to the company moving one's training bid a month early. In my experience, that means we are screwed if we'd like it moved back to its original month. This is because the company, knowing a contract isn't going to be done by Peak (big surprise), is bracing for an apparent manning issue (even though we are "overmanned.")

In return, I lose a month of preparation. Instead of having seven weeks to prepare, I may have to train in three weeks. I also lose any scheduling flexibility I had during the holidays with training. As well, I lose any flexibility in November I may have been hoping for being pretty Junior in my seat, and can expect to train on a November day I was hoping to have off.

Awesome!

I finally spoke with my manager after three emails went unanswered. The answer was I could not have my training moved back to December because the company is preparing for peak and needs all available pilots. And, moving training to November was an upper management decision.

Awesome!

...the company is preparing for peak and needs all available pilots...

What other decisions is upper management making...or choosing to not make?

Once again, they have clearly communicated to the pilots what is working towards speeding up negotiations. I wonder how many will understand and be energized to redouble their efforts?
