FDX-Uniform vendor [Landerwood]
Does anyone else on here buy their uniform shirts from Landerwood? I have bought shirts from them nearly every year, and have been impressed with their quality.
With that said, I purchased shirts from them last year just before the end of the year in order to make sure I used my uniform allowance for the year. Understandably, the shirts were on back order, and I didn't have a problem with that. My issue is that it is now mid-October, and I still HAVEN'T received my shirts from last December. I have contacted the company numerous times, and they are always courteous, but I am wondering how a company can stay in business selling shirts when they have back orders lasting nearly a year? Has anyone ordered shirts from them this year and have received the shirts? Just curious. |
I used them for a few years....but the quality of the shirts went south so fast....I stopped using them.
|
I tried them out a couple of years ago and wasn't overly impressed with quality or cut. I've been using A Cut Above since - much prefer the different cut options they offer. Fast delivery so I'm assuming they maintain a good sized inventory.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Customer service at Landerwood was always great, just give him a call. |
I took a look at A Cut Above. Mentions Velcro on pocket flaps. Never had that before. How is it? Useful, holds up to laundering, etc?
|
I got one from A Cut Above. The pockets are open at the top. No pen holder.

A Cut Above has two styles of shirts, One is open across the top; the other one velcros with a flap and has pen slots on both sides, and looks like a regular pocket button and all. Both styles come in three cuts (fitted, tapered, full). Great shirts and their customer is great.
Pants are great too. |

They went from shirts produced in the USA to Chinese imports - what did you expect?

I ordered some shirts almost a month ago. Here's the email response I got almost two weeks ago:
"We have production back up issues stemming from a damaged fabric shipment received several months ago, but we are running full speed now and hope to catch up quickly. I will forward this request to the factory, and you will hear from them, or me within a few days. Thanks for the order and sorry for the inconvenience." Like I said.....ordered a little over a month ago with no shirts as of today. |

Pants are great too. Got a contact number? How easy was it to expense? |

http://www.acutaboveuniforms.com No-brainer to expense. Just used company card and did as normal on expense report website. I know the owner had a meeting with fedex mgt a while back about becoming one of our official vendors. Went well but don't know what came of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

+1 for A Cut Above. Love the shirts. The tropo material is very nice. The options of 3 different cuts is great and the collars are the best. Someone mentioned they had the pants. I tried the pants about 2 years ago and the colors weren't a match. Are the "New UAL Midnight Blue" pants a good match for us at FedEx? I'd love to give them a go...

back order as well
I ordered some shirts from Landerwood last December. I did not receive them until four months afterward. As is mentioned earlier, customer service is always courteous, but I still think that their production issues are an indicator of something larger behind the scenes. I have switched to a cut above as well. Just be sure that when you order you don't order the one's that have the little rectangle for wings on the shirt, I accidentally missed that one.

Landerwood shirt quality went way South. I have been a customer for 14 years and even returned to them an old yellowed one with along the new one that would not press smooth in the button hole section. Seems they used a thread that was made of a different material than the surrounding fabric and thus it shrank at a different rate. The fabric buckled around the stitching as a result. The old yellow one was still perfect. Very frustrating

Not a Happy Customer
Can we order pants through "cut above" and expense them? I'm not a fan of the VF Solutions pants and I don't get to HK often, so I can't get pants done there. I've found that the Landerwood shirts lately (last two years) have been sub-standard; the material sucks.....very thick and rough (STS) and it took almost 6 months to get them. Good thread "Active Herk" .............very useful.

I'm going to try A Cut Above shirt. I put a pen on my pocket in my current shirt and want to continue doing that, but I'm unsure of the open pocket vs the Velcro closed pocket at A Cut Above. Comments on either type of pocket? (Guess what I'm concerned about is the Velcro on the pocket closure. Is it a clean look, silly, etc--I just have never thought if Velcro on a shirt pocket.)
Also, it says there is a foam spacer in the collar. I would think this would fall apart under washing? Anyone with experience reference that? |
No issues for me with the Velcro pocket flap. Looks just like a regular pocket and has held up well over 18 months or so of wear, wash and pressing. Ditto for the liner on the inside of the collar. Breathes a lot better too and is much more comfy on your neck.

The following email that I received earlier today might shed some light on the aforementioned company:
Hi Guys – just in case any of you were planning on ordering shirts from Landerwood, I just had a conversation with the new owners – they are out of MD and have been making the shirts for Landerwood for some time. Bottom line, Joe got seriously ill late last year and Mac got overwhelmed with the business and they have basically sold it to the makers. They are not sure yet if they are to continue with our relationship so standby for and FCIF one way or the other…..take care. Anyway, I hope this helps. |
BM told the F/O class last week that we're going to a new vendor for pants and shirts in January. It will be a single approved vendor that we can use, but I either can't remember who he said it was or perhaps he didn't mention it. We're also getting a new parka that we'll be able to buy as we phase out the old one. He's pretty committed to reducing the number of different uniform options we have, to include pant and shirt styles apparently.
|
BM may DECIDE to do all of that but here's the rub ... parkas, pants, and shirts can add up quickly in cost and the current uniform allowance is minimal at best.
He would need authorization from someone far more important to INCREASE the uniform allowance for all pilots to comply AND/OR grandfather the existing options for quite awhile. That would mean ADDED EXPENSES for the Company (Big No-No) -- the OPPOSITE of cost savings. No Bonus for BM. Rumor has it that cost savings from FUEL SENSE PROGRAM generated the equivalent bonus of the highest paid 777 Captain for BM. That's a large chunk of change folks, but I do have to admit the new JAGUAR looks strong. Once BM jumps in it though, the overall effect is negligible. Not a very popular guy for many reasons. |

So where do we spend this years allowance or is he going to allow us to carry it over into next year to pay for our new parka with epaulets? |
M&H?

I have used M&H at a previous carrier and thought their uniforms were excellent. The pants were great and lasted for years as did the shirts. If true, this is a pretty good vendor......or at least it was a while back ago.
YMMV. |
Their pants are $85! If that's who we go with, we'll definitely need an increase in our uniform allowance--NC take note!
|
I was at M&H a couple months ago and there was a FedEx guy there buying uniform pants. I know he was FedEx b/c he was asking about a discount. They didn't have one set up, but gave him the same discount that my airline has there (about 45% off of the internet listed price).
M&H is great. One of the best uniforms that I have worn. |
One of the things I liked about A Cut Above shirts is that you had a LOT of options with them. Three different cuts: tapered, normal, full; and, different pocket types and fabrics. This gives a lot of great fit types and options to the shirt while maintaining the same look for everyone.
Even Landerwood who used Aetna shirt company had a lot of options. Wonder if M&H has custom options for those who want them? |

I went to VF Imagewear on American Way
yesterday..They told me straight up its M&H.. starting next year.. |
Just got a call today from Aetna Shirt Company regarding my April order from Landerwood. They said the Landerwood gentleman have retired. Aetna has made the shirts for Landerwood. Aetna is taking over the business. See info on Landerwood webpage. Landerwoodshirts.com
Included in the webpage is a letter from Joe Claar, retiring owner of Landerwood explaining the situation. |
